Portal: Environmental Law and Policy - Daintree Rainforest, "one of the largest remaining expanses of rainforest in the Queensland lowlands due to its protected status as a World Heritage Area"
http://flickr.com/photos/77591274@N00/431141306/ Organization: Social Innovation Exchange - When I think of Innovation, Japan is one of the places I think of first. This is Shibuya crossing, one of the busiest street crossings in the world. With so many busy people in one place, there's gotta be a lot of ideas floating around. http://flickr.com/photos/poagao/2305789767/ Group: Sustainable Wallingford An actual picture of Wallingford, England...described as a "thriving market town", with a market in the background. http://flickr.com/photos/oxfordshirechurches/536879628/ Event: Public Interest Environment Law Conference - The logo of the event's flyer. WiserEarth will have a table there with a couple representatives! http://www.pielc.org/2008/index.html |

Top: titled "Encouraging equality". The quote below the picture is particularly appropriate for this weekends International Women's Day.
"“The ideologies and images that girls absorb and hold during the formative and uncertain years of adolescence through socialization have crucial effect on how they determine their future roles in a society. Adolescent girls need an encouraging environment in which their equality with boys is recognized and their well-being is seriously concerned, and which teaches them their rights and entitlements.” - UN Division for the Advancement of Women " http://flickr.com/photos/beija-flor/424753663/ Portal: Global Pollution - An oil refinery at sunset in Bukit Merah, Central Singapore http://flickr.com/photos/pranavseth/536791232/ Organization: Land, Air and Water LAW - If you watched Lord of the Rings, you saw a lot of New Zealand. One example of the awesome landscape there. Taken in Otago, NZ. http://flickr.com/photos/sharman/17590752/ Group: Women's Earth Alliance - titled "Dignity". The colors of her head scarf plus the background fits in well with the pictures surrounding it. The caption below the picture: "This woman was recycling plastic liners taken from chemical drums on the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka. She would wash them in the river, let them dry in the sun and then pack them into one of the liners. With her arduous and low paid work she still had time to flash a warm and confidant smile. Area of Focus: "Ecological Change and Emerging Diseases" - Bird flu virus photo, the blue virus is attacking the pink cells. The environment affects us in so many ways, that we must understand.
Organization: "International Institute for the Urban Environment" - Trees in a city, from Barcelona, Catalonia. Kinda blends with the picture next to it...and hoipefully makes you think about how the two subjects intersect.
Group: "World Wide Water Commons" - I like the activity of the people around the water, taken from Varanasi, India.
Event: "The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil" - after googling the documentary, I read "Since the early 1990s, an urban agriculture movement has swept through Cuba, putting this capital city of 2.2 million on a path toward sustainability." I like the picture because of the color, and how it suggests the possibility of growth and gardens.
