That brings a smile to my face!
Ahimsa (translates to non-harming...LOVE) has been a focused intention with my practice for 5 years, prior to this i was an on and off again vegetarian. This is not so easy, being truly non-harming in this world...if you do your research, you'll find some interesting information.
There are some great resources out there, I will begin to compile a resource list on this page. I get frustrated with Vegetarian magazines, because they are mostly filled with ads of highly processed foods, publish recipes with the use of cheese- which, unless you really know your local cheese maker- most use rennet- so not really even vegetarian!
This practice takes being actively engaged, as I find information, I have to make a conscious choice as to how I will move forward.
Did you know that unless you choose organic maple syrup- you are contributing to an industry that uses charcoal from animal bones for the filtering system? Fish fertilizer and blood meal to grow organic veggies? I barely pick up my 35mm anymore, because each time i use it i am using film that has gelatin as an ingredient. These practices are widely used, without the requirement for labeling.
If anyone out there wants to contribute a list of beers and wines, or anything else, that are truly Vegan- please post it here!
To note....I am not near perfect in this practice, it is an ongoing process of self discovery in how i am in all my actions every day, moving closer to ahimsa as i evolve.
I look forward to a lively discussion here- as this topic generally gets folks all roused-up!
May all beings be well! Linda
