The summaries now seem to omit ratings. I remember these used to be listed a bit randomly with the old search engine so maybe it was easier to leave them out with the new engine? How are results now ranked please?

In the old search results we ranked all results by relevance (to the keywords you entered for the search). Ratings etc were only every used to sort browse views (not search results). So nothing has changed as a result of the new search engine at least as far as ratings go. Hope that helps.
