From the "Ways to Steward WiserEarth's Areas of Focus" discussion @ http://www.wiserearth.org/forum/view/2f789feac329270c953783b46b525bcc/group/aof
it can be concluded that the best way to steward an area of focus is by creating a dedicated sub-group (of this group) for it.

But before going all out, we need to experiment with several areas of focus, create several sub-groups to steward them, and see how the stewarding process can best be carried out.

I think we need to experiment with two types of areas of focus: most popular ones, and least popular ones, so we can know how to steward each type and those in between. But if anyone is interested in creating a sub-group other than the two types, they're most welcomed to do so.

I'll post more on preliminary steps to take upon creating a sub-group (summarizing the discussions and experiments so far).

Great stuff Bowo. The stewarding concept is really coming to life.

a short explanation on the "anti-war" group. I felt this group was needed to encompass a few areas of focus as part of the anti-war movement. It's easier to see strength in numbers. Also I imagine more people will be attracted to the word "anti-war" and to some aspects of being anti-war than others, but bringing them into the group connects them to other subjects which they might not have considered.

Another point...while creating groups, I don't think we should shy away from the original taxonomy. It's ok to call groups by names which are more familiar or grounded in our everyday use.

I decided not to go create a sub group until I figured the answer to whether or not that sub-group editorial process was working. Any definitive * good* , * more needed*, * not happy with process* reports?

Most all of the AOF stewarding talk seems to stall about 8/9 months ago,  and I would like to know if it is going to stay in hiatus until other changes are in place.

best,

The sub-group editorial process did not receive the momentum nor manpower needed. So, can't tell yet whether it can actually work or not. More experimentation is needed.

Another idea along this thread is to request existing groups to 'adopt' an AoF portal. So, for example, we can request folks of Sustainable Garderners and Farmers group and Permaculture Supporters group to help edit the Permaculture portal. But to do that, we must also solve the "to lock or not to lock" question. And we also want to create a good portal layout that is easy for them to edit and add content to.

Either way, we need several committed AoF Editors for each AoF portal, which is something we're short of at the moment.

I think we want to evaluate what's been tried so far, what worked, what didn't work, and what best to do going forward in the main WE Editors group. Having fresh eyes looking at some of these 'abandoned' pages is just what's needed toward that end.

Thanks h!
