I think you should post this in the Suggestions group. Many of the parts of this document you suggest DO exist although they are not yet in one document. So I am guessing from your posting and your profile that you are a newcomer yourself and thus can provide us with a 'newbie's' perspective on what contributes to the 'confusion' here. The work in process occurs in the Editors group.... that's where people are attempting to deal with the UI and the user experience and determine improvements. If I understand you , what you are suggesting is a wiki document which would include your 4 levels. I think it would be relatively easy to pull this togeher from the 'parts' currently existing. We will await Bowo and Michael's feedback on this suggestion. |

It was a draft started by Bowo to help organize "the chaos". The Editors group has evolved since then to something which focused on managing site activities (content-management, user support, group support) through the working groups: http://www.wiserearth.org/article/68d25c33b654cf225650cbd550f9ce4a There needs to be a new document however that reflects the current setup of the Editors group, which basically serves as a hub for active WiserEarth users. I'll start with a brief summary for it. The original draft consists of many useful ideas which we adopted, but many of those ideas were not feasible. It is unrealistic to be provided with an over-all strategy document which the directors of the WiserEarth project would completely follow. A lot of the information on such "strategies" will probably remain confidential. This is not to say that the suggestions of users will not be taken into account. I think the activity of the WiserEarth user-base will ultimately shape the overall vision of the site itself. The WiserEarth community can always work with the tools and discussion forums and groups we have been provided..and to strive towards a consensus on "what to do". We can have a collaborative strategy document or two, or three, but probably not one which everybody will accept...which is fine. From disagreements there will be stronger discussions. The Suggestions group is a place for smaller improvements to WiserEarth, that don't require a dramatic reform of how WiserEarth operates as a whole. This Governance group on the other hand, can be a space to think about those "big changes". Thank you for your enthusiasm for working on a document that contains "over-all" strategy. The last three day I was humbling though the different threads and discussions. I made my assumption more confident, that WE is miss a dynamic document contains over-all strategy and related break downs. Such a document is essential and gain highest priority.
The upper level of such a document should not exceed certain amount of pages (3?) to have effective focus and to make it easy to swap/reconfigure and topics or elements.
we can go up to 4 levels of detailed elaborating.
Level 1: Overview
Level 2: Description
Level 3: Projection/Planing -Level Task Description
Level 4: Management and Coordination
For now we need the overview! Before we go and create our own we should give chance to present benchmarks , existing templates.
When we have the paper drafted, any new member will dig it and focus his contribution upon his know-how and interests .
I still do not know the GA SW .. am not sure if we need a management-tool to create the over-all strategy.
