What would this group be like? Can we get Joanna Macy to participate? I heard amazing things about the class she and Sean taught this fall and felt like I missed out. I don't know a whole lot about her work, but I've heard enough to know I should be interested, especially if she can be involved. Tell us more Jonathan.

Joanna Macy's work has been one of the more profound learning experiences of my life. I am honored to play a part in sharing it. I would love to co-create the container for this group. A collaborative effort with anywhere from 2 to 6 people in the "seed circle." Here is what we created last winter... The purpose was to facilitate community building, awareness, empowerment, and collaboration around our individual forms of social action. We did this by deciding together in the first meeting what tools would be implemented as a framework for our journey together. The group met for 3 hours weekly, and was open to new members every 1st session of each month. We agreed to utilize the work that reconnects as a central theme... this work is outlined on joanna macy's site joannamacy.net - and in her guidebook for facilitators. The groups were about 80% experiential exercises provided in sequence. We explored gratitude, honoring our pain, seeing with new eyes, council of all beings, deep time, personal and group based somanic integration, and what is known as going forth; intentional integration of the work that we did with our personal lives. The sessions were a cyclical journey through the different aspect of the work, starting with gratitude, ending with some form of integration, and dancing in between the available forms of ceremony, ritual, and experiential learning exercises, similar to the format of her workshops. The different roles that I imagine we would want to fill would start with the role of catalyst; the people helping with inviting people and setting up the place and faciltiator; ( we worked with anywhere between 1 and 4 facilitators at different meetings). Step one has always been to create a curriculum, and i am available to help with this. Facilitators could be alternating based on what individuals have to bring to the space. I would love to invite joanna macy to be part of it. I wonder what that could look like. Perhaps she would be willing to facilitate some of the despair work (honoring our pain). I am pleased to begin this conversation. This year a goup in grass valley is forming now, and I sense momentum to have one in the bay area and/or one in sebastopol. If you live in one of these areas and you are interested, let us know. |

Is anyone interested in an extra curricular study group devoted to the work that reconnects? Let me know...
