I'm new here, but I noticed some things that might improve the user profile page. Sorry if it's been considered before, or are being planned right now, but here they are:

1. About the positioning of "Related Discussions"

In the user profile page. I believe "Related Discussions" would be better placed at the top of the page, between "Comments" and "Activity", or before "Comments". This is because that area of the profile page indicates that user's activities, while the right hand side of the page under the big avatar image indicates more about what other user can do to/with that particular user.

2. About the "Activity" page

I entered several comments on forum discussions but they didn't show up in the "Activity" page. However, when I add a new forum topic, it was added in the "Activity" page. Why is this happening? Shouldn't every activity be listed there?

3. About "Add a Comment" under the big avatar image

I feel that user might confuse it with "Send Me a Message", though when they scroll downward, they'll know the difference. So, how about changing it to "Add a Comment to This Page" or something like that.

4. About making better use of the right-hand side of the profile page

4.1. On "Activity" again.

How about streaming a user's latest 10 (or maybe 5) activities between the "Related Discussions" link and "Google Map". This should say intuitively a little more about the user.

4.2. On "Comments"

How about adding the latest 10 (or maybe 5) of that user's latest comments, along with the title of "the context" of that comments, i.e. the title of the discussion. So they would read "bla... bla... bla..." in "Improvements of the user profile page"

4.3. How about adding a "Resources I Recommend" section somewhere in the right-hand side of the page. This should also tell something more about the user and be a great encouragement for further site exploration.

4.4. How about a "My latest blog entry" section?
Many users is bound to have a blog on something I guess. How about streaming latest entries of their blog? This would also tell a little more about that user's state of mind or feeling.

5. Putting the number of "Comments", "Related Discussions" and "Activity" beside their respective link (inside brackets). So it would look something like this:
Comments (72) | Related Discussions (34) | Activity (105)
This should say something of the level of engagement of that user within WiserEarth.

6. Since I'm a new user, this would be more of a question than suggestion. Will the Google Map show other users close to my location? If not, how about making them do so.

7. About the "Watchlist" page
I add two of my recent comments in the forums to it, but none appeared there. Bug?

Those would be it for now. Hope to find other possibilities not yet considered before.

By the way, I noticed that "Related Discussions" actually is the same as "Forums" on the "Network" section. Any reason why this duplication is necessary? As such, why not just delete "Related Discussions" instead of repositioning it? as I suggested earlier.

Hi bowo,
You're on a roll and we really appreciate it!
1. Great suggestion!
2. Your comments are listed in the "Comment" section, while all other activity is listed in the "Activity" section.
3. True.
4. Some of these suggestions are captured in the "Network", but I like that you're thinking about re-purposing the right column.
5. True. You can currently see that number after you click "Comments", etc, but your suggestion would increase consistency on the site.
6. For that function, click "Interactive Map" in the left column. Do you think it would still be helpful to have an interactive map on the profile page too?
7. Have the comments still not showed up in your Watchlist?

I hope this is helpful,
thanks again.

Yeah, guess I just have nothing to do back then :P

Thanks for the answers. They helped.

As for no 6, I'd say that unless user can see others nearby in the map on the user profile page, the map is not very useful. For people with slow connection, that would be a drag, since I noticed that with all the AJAX in the page, the total load was about 300 to 400 kB. They could always opt to turn off images via their browser though. It's just an opinion and I'm speaking from a country where Google Maps still don't count for much (it only shows islands, instead of streets and buildings :P )

As for no 7, we've dealt with it in the other forum topic.

Many thanks, and keep up the good responds :)

We should add a job-seeker information field(s) so that organizations can see who is looking for work or volunteer opportunities and so that we can get a better idea what users need.

Seems like a good idea, I just wouldnt want to clutter the page with fields we already have. But it'd be cool to have a job section for resume's, or maybe just a check-box that says "I'm looking for a job"

You could add a link to the registration or profile edit page for 'additional information' and add in a few more fields that then either display on the profile or simply identify users elsewhere.

I'd like to see a different kind of Activity page - that could be similar to a blog- to let people know what you have been doing in your field
