I think a good "Community Portal" (an expansion and improvement of the current "Get Involved" page at http://www.wiserearth.org/article/77cc09f8d4cbeb05631a86ab666e35bb/ which is accessible from the homepage) will help. This idea is inspired by Wikipedia's community portal at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Community_Portal).
It doesn't have to be a carbon copy or to resemble Wikipedia's, but the idea is to have a place where users can visit and know where and how to help out in improving WiserEarth. Another experiment on this front is the "Learn", "Assist" and "Collaborate" pages of the WiserEarth Editors group at http://www.wiserearth.org/group/WiserEarthEditors These pages can be "merged" with the "Get Involved" page with some more additions (e.g. pages on "A Tour of WiserEarth", etc.) so we can have a place where new and seasoned users can visit on a regular basis and know what to do to help out. Once the community portal is properly setup, a monthly WiserEarth newsletter might also be a good idea to notify users on updates/progress and to remind them to come back and improve WE's content. Manual reach-out (inviting users to groups stewarding each AoF) is of course an on-going thing to do to get more users active in improving WE's content. |

Noticed last night as I was on the Tibet page that there was no place to put 'breaking news" ... created a 'wiki' page for this ... but i think the need for timely information and easy access to timely information is crucial and that WE needs to find a way to generate updating and deleting of older content. This should be easily doable once we succeed in finding AofF stewards ... |
