I'm gonna do my best to work this into our roadmap.  :)  Michael - this is an excellent list.  It is a crying shame we haven't implemented it yet, but you've hit just about every possible improvement we should make!

Adrienne,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Definitely think we should include this in the "Advanced Search" options.

I want to be able to search for groups by location.

Nice round up Mike!

Yes, perhaps they need to be added as separate suggestions so we can see the +/- of each. Or open it up in the discussion space of the Suggestion group?

Below is a list of search feedback compiled from the WE community.

Perhaps some of these need to be converted as a Suggestion.  In my opinion..searching should be one of the most popular reasons that people visit this site.  I'm not sure about others..but as a now very p/t user of the site, it certainly is my most frequent motivation for visiting the site.  So I'd like it to be as accessible and intelligent as possible.

I am kinda on a roll today

This is a list of feedback for improving the search.  If you see a suggestion that strikes you, please create it as a suggestion in the list!

  • Incorporate a Search Selector (like Amazon.com) into the home page rather than the current horizontal search options
  • Create a single 'advanced' search and place next to the search box
  • Put the search box at the bottom of the page as well as the top
  • Put the search box inside a group's organization/resource/etc list
  • Give users ways to save their search results/searches
  •  Advanced search – make the boxes of options a drop down menu for countries/territories/regions
  • Make the other text predictive and fast loading
  • Make Refine your Search – larger
  • Compensate for common misspellings and show results for nearest correct spelling – need a tailored spell checker for the domain. Concentrate on findings from log files for top 100-500 misspelled search terms
  • When someone does a search and comes up with nothing, make suggestions: ‘We found no matches for envionmental organizations. Below are the results for environmental organizations’
