Hi all,

A while back, one community member asked whether it's possible to put locations of fruit trees on their neighborhood into a group's map (so people could go there and harvest fruits that otherwise would just rot (and be composted though)). Of course, this is not possible since we don't have a record type for such need. Resources don't have location field.

The question is, should we enable 'resources' to have an (optional) location field?... and thus make them map-able and geo-searchable?

Looks unimportant but could be useful? Some example use cases:

  • Mapping community gardens
  • Mapping meeting halls/building usable by a community group
  • Other location-based community resources

Just checking if this is an unmet need that should be fulfilled (now that we're working on geo-search).

Best,

Bowo

Resources do have a country field at present but the general consensus is that this doesn't make sense. The vast majority of use cases for resources do not require a location and it clutters up the interface. So I would suggest we remove the country field and assume that for 99% of cases resources are virtual (e.g. websites) or papers / books with no fixed location.
