The overall objective of this group is to discuss the role of ICT in the creation of a sustainable world.ICT (Information and Communication Technology) services are a big progress of humanity. But E-waste (IT material, energy waste) is huge, and a computer is made of highly polluting materials and consumes a lot of energy during its very short life. E-waste ...learn more

I am not sure about the objective of this group - the heading and the first sentence talk about a broad and general scope, but then the objective goes in to focusing on e-waste and energy/pollution.

(doesn't seem to be much action in the group anyways!)

Hi Frax,

You're right, and the objective of the group is to discuss about a broad and general scope. We must change the heading.

E-waste and energy/pollution is one aspect, but there are others, like the relevancy of ICT use in humanitarian/development help (I think of the "one laptop per child" project, or of a project I worked for, aimed at bringing ICT in some Guinean hospitals)

I originally started this group to discuss the best practices of bringing ICT in development projects.

For which development is a good use of ICT? In Western societies, people are struggling with a stressing and sometimes meaningless system and living like this might not be a progress for humanity. I think development help projects should not try to bring this system to developing countries.

So what system is good? What role for ICT in this system? Or in a more realistic situation, how to make good use of ICT in sustainable development projects?

That's also what this group should discuss, what do you think, Frax?

As for the action in the group, it's up to us to bring some! ;-)

Cheers,

Thomas

I would suggest removing the e-waste/pollution/energy stuff from the description, to keep the scope open and broad. Or make it only a small mention.
