I just finished reading Loren Eiseley's essay "The Lethal Factor." Quoting Jesus's final words, "It is finished," Eiseley asserts "It was not for himself that he cried - it was for man against eternity, for us of every human generation who perform against the future the acts which justify creation or annul it." Eisely speaks of our decisions and the actions that emerge from those decisions: Decisions that affirm life justify the creation of our species; those that deny life annul it. Each of us can, indeed we must, decide how we intend to be in the community of life, and we must act consistently in harmony with that intention. Will we affirm life, thereby justifying our existence, or will we deny life and hasten our own demise?"
