We hear a lot about renewable energy versus non renewable energy. I think we need to expand the dialog and start looking at wind farms versus local use of wind; massive centralized solar energy farms versus rooftop PV; combined cycle natural gas-fired power plants at a utility scale versus smaller gas-fired power plants at a community level which use the waste heat. It's not just a matter of what technology we choose to use but also how we choose to use it. I put forward the argument that generating electricity and/or thermal energy close to where it is needed should take priority over the technology chosen if we want to maximize environmental benefits.

Are you proposing the addition of a new Area of Focus? If so, what would it be?

How about centralized versus decentralized electricity?

I'm thinking that a more elegant way to represent that is to use Areas of Focus called Electricity and another called Small Scale Power Generation. Maybe we should add a third, called Scale of Power Generation. I think breaking the subject up in a some way like this makes the system more elegant and straightforward. Thanks for responding!
