About
In May of 2002, The Order of Earth (OOE), a Colorado non-profit was founded and the Lakota People is our first global project. The Lakota wise elders translated OOE into "Maka Si Tomni" and our byline is "Bringing Forth a Thriving Lakota Language & Culture." This project is happening in a sovereign nation, "Common Lakota People" at a grass root level committing to a Thriving Language & Culture. The Council developed is intent and committed on making a difference and taking effective actions within their circumstances as a nation of free people.
I have witnessed first hand at Pine Ridge Reservation the results broken constitutional treaties, inter-generational trauma from oppression: government, religion, education, poverty at the level of a third world developing country, absolutely no socio-economic development and a national economic standard practice where tribal members are still being treated as hostile's, and social disintegration occuring in the culture at a level of almost intentional institutional genocide for many years.
This 1st Nation People is an example of an age old problem: the clash of "patriarchy," a cultural distinction where exclusion and appropriation is the fundament, taken-for-granted way of being, conquering rights of others is a matter-of-fact for political existence, and the biological root of human nature is violence; versus a social loving biological animal, present in the moment in natural spiritual law, an ethic in social relations where the primary distinctions are harmony. connection, balance, and the primary ethical act is integration in relationship to all life as a strand in the web of life. Aggression in patriarchy is taken for granted as the "natural biological praxis" and only way of being. Our business, political and social lives are now a battlefield in every domain of existence. We fight disease, the war-room is now the boardroom, and even the bedroom has been acquired by exclusion and appropriation. Yet, exploring the Lakota Paradigm and learning about a new view , you discover, a way of being and seeing based in social relations, legitimacy-in-coexistence for one another (two-legged=human animals) and a praxis of living based in legitimacy-in-coexistence for the web of life: rocks, plants stars, animals, water, air, and fire.
Sustainability in the 21st century is not going to happen until we solve the "human relations" breakdown and create a new ethic in living realization where the standard practice in human relations is respect = legitimacy-in-coexistence, then real trust can emerge. The Lakota People are a courageous nation with mythic legends and warriors like "Crazy Horse." The Lakota Paradigm (which is congruent with most indigenous people myths) is a connection to the earth, stars, plants and animals within natural law.
The Lakota Paradigm offers a significant opportunity in learning a new perspective in the domains of biology, language, cognition and society. And a practical way to engage in this exploratory learning is to support the "Little Big Horn Victory Celebration" on June 25, 2008. The event is not a political demonstration, it is a spiritual demonstration within natural law of the Lakota story that challenges patriarchy, prejudices, paradigms, colonial warring, genocide based in power, sustainability of the family altar, and points to a future where we choose to embrace differences, old creation stories that are alive, and experience the beginning of a "multi-verse" versus "universe." The Lakota Paradigm is the historic generational conservation of a heart-felt desire, biologically embedded in the bones and blood based in social connection with all life in the universe. The domain of friendship we experience everyday is the social domain in the praxis of our lives where we can begin to glimpse the paradigm they embody.
One possible way Wiser Earth Community can practice Outreach and Publicity is to discuss, sponsor, support the Lakota People. "Peace through Unity" is the key message of the "Little Big Horn Victory Celebration" on June 25th 2008. 1st Nation People throughout the world have a legitimate-historic-balance that is capable of sharing an "elderhood" perspective, standard practice of wisdom, integration in bio diversity that is relevant for todays children, exploration in science, future ecological leaders and current life-threatening breakdowns worldwide. The Lakota People live on American soil, they experience the lowest income per capita in the US $4,000 per year, the deliver the highest per capita participation of veterans / they are still warrriors, and they are the silent invisability of what is best about being human.
The Little Big Horn Ride is an opportunity for Wiser Earth to support a courageous culture and history, and have a new old voice of elderhood speak about peace through unity in an authentic way. Wiser Earth may find the circular chain based in four colors come alive in an authentic demonstration of global solidarity. As one elder shared the other day: it doesn't matter who gets elected in 2008, we will be treaty the same by both parties. Maybe not, maybe the Lakota People can be seen as a refreshing experience, an old ancient paradigm to be explored, supported independently of government by a real social global network, and maybe, the gift they give by showing up as peaceful warrior's on a hollow ground of battle becomes a gift to all of humanity! It is new way of "seeing" and "being" that can only arise in this moment.
It's going to be fun because the Lakota People are friendly, humorous, and generous! Maka Si Tomni Production, the first Lakota Film Company intends to make a documentary of this event and the prayer is that it is more widely then Al Gore's "Inconsequential Truth." The Lakota People are heros, scientists, social engineers, and consensual leaders of grass-rooted democratic principles. They are not obedient slaves, matrix robotic participants in a mindlessness or consumeristic junkies looking for the next fix. They may be poor but they have something we are all dying for: life, beauty, prayers, freedom, and a point of view where they still feel connected to one another, even in their suffering.
Thank you
