Hello!,

I'm considering the following question in relation to facilitated sustainability workshops i.e. assisting NGO / public & private sector organisations create change so they become holistically sustainable.

I'm wondering if any of you have learning and/or experience in the following:-

- Using 'background' music or music / sound created by the workshop participants, to increase the engagement of the participants in the group processes being conducted and/or
- To create positive associations with the processes being experienced
- Using any other art form for the same processes

I am currently undertaking learning and soon work experience, so I can conduct facilitated sustainability workshops myself. While I do not have experience in using arts as described above, I have a feeling that such an approach might have considerable potential. I can also see that it could be problematic!

All comments / links welcomed.

With warm thanks,

Hi Bryce,

I do not know of a resource or organization that works in the realm you are talking about. I suggest targeting your inquiry to some organizations that work directly in communication training and organizational management. You can find a lot of organizations that work in those realms by going to the 'Civil Society Organizations: Nonprofits, Philanthropy, and Social Entrepreneurs' Area of Focus: http://www.wiserearth.org/aof/250

Those groups might be a good place to start.

Thanks.

Maybe you're looking for didacticism: "an artistic philosophy that emphasizes instructional and informative qualities in literature and other types of art." -Wikipedia

You might check out the school I posted on WiserEarth and that I attended for elementary school, Emerson Waldorf in Chapel Hill, NC.

I think you should check OPA´s website. We work with art in many ways: music, circus, storytelling, dance... and our main goal is to link this learning process to permaculture:
