Bringing Together the Bay Area's Youth Serving Environmental
The Bay Area Youth Environmental Coalition is a group of environmental focused organizations that serve youth in the Bay Area. This group was formed to provide a place for sharing resources, events, and ideas to better serve the youth in our networks and provide them with information from diverse groups.
1. How YEC might become incorporated as its own organization. It's
leader could to facilitate the pipeline between orgs and create a web
hub for both youth and program providers.
2. Creating an advisory or leadership council to formalize and
maintain YEC resources:Facilitate Resource Sharing – share with school
districts or school board meetings... Stewardship council can provide
some back office support
3. Define mission statement and purpose: planning group should
prioritize this
4. Youth quest: could become a once a year YEC event that helps to
bring programs together.
5. Subcommittees for major tracks (web, resources, funding,
transportation, political access, small business development details,
etc…) give members of this coalition a role and something to own and
move forward with....
6. Coordinate quarterly YEC meetings
7. Youth Advisory Council to provide insight
COMMUNICATIONS:
§ Possible List Serve if participants are interested
§ Quarterly Newsletter/e-newsletter/Zine to include Youth
§ Commonly shared wiki site: way for each group to post own info and
resources, turn it into collaborative website rather than putting it
all on one individual; youth also update, participating
§ Blog for posting and responding to questions
§ Online Calendar and resource list (currently using WISER earth, and
there is not much participation on it: http://www.wiserearth.org/group/YEC) (you're here now ;)
Review notes and objectives again from last year's meeting, before we
Set a date/time/intention/agenda for larger group meeting
SOME BIG QUESTIONS TO PONDER:
"Where did the Momentum go?" there was a lot that came out of the day
summit from last year in the Summer.
Is it a good time to send out those notes, needs, and resources again
along with a call-out for another gathering? Who has those?
send the Youth Quest need/offer to move onto another organization
request out... rfp?
Is there any organizing outside of this YEC'ness you know of?
What can we do to forward our mission that would grab people's attention
and bring them in to participate more?
Who else should we bring in for organizing this next gathering? Who was really helpful last year?
The next YEC meeting is THURSDAY 6/19
at 3:30pm - 5:30pm
in San Francisco
Earth Island Institutes (300 Broadway #28).
