We have FAQ and tutorial pages for using, customizing and managing groups. You can reach them from the "i" icon to the left of the blue "Administrator Tools" button as pictured below:

The pop-out on hovering mouse cursor over pencil icon needs to go leftward like the "Administrator Tools" pop-out menu. At present, it's rightward and hovering over the pencil icon on modules positioned in the right column will make some text in the menu getting cut-off (likewise with the pop-out grey frame).

 

Hello everyone. Great to see the new skin up and running. It's looking good!

 

I'm testing it at the moment using Firefox 3.0.5 on WinXP SP2, and here's some initial feedback:

• text in the chatterbox module is not wrapped to fit the width when in right side of the new layout (66/33). Will report back as I find some more.
• members module looks a bit awkward when put on top or bottom. There's eleven avatars in a row (not as intuitive as 15, the number used in the old skin), and there's a blank space at the end of the row. Not sure I have a good idea to solve this. Is reverting back to the old 15 avatars in a row a no-go?
• members module settings should reflect numbers in each row to eliminate blank space at the right of the last row of avatars. In other words:
  - when in top/bottom mode, the selection should be the multiplication of 11, which is 11, 22, 33, etc. Or if we go back to the 15 in a row mode, selection should be 15, 30, 45, etc.
  - when in middle left of 66/33 skin, the settings should show multiplication of 7, which is 7, 14, 21, etc.
  - when in right of 66/33 skin, it should show multiplication of 4, which is 4, 8, 12, etc.
  - when in middle of 50/50 skin, it should show multiplication of 5(?).
• Need to add the dark-grey-colored line at the bottom of members module to match appearance of other modules.
• Blank space to the left of Admin Tools button, where there used to be tabs, seems redundant. To eliminate this, may want to:
  - move the links in info icon (to FAQ, Tutorial) into admin tools.
  - move the watchlist link and icon under the short description beside the logo
  - move the position of the group title, tagline and short description a bit upwards so they allign with the upper part of logo and provide space for the watchlist link and logo
  - move the admin tools button upwards under group description.
  - remove the blank space.
• Display "Administrator Tools" as is for group admins, and replace it with "Member Tools" for members. Each with relevant links/tools in the drop-down menu.
• Will we keep colors greyish instead of the light brown shown in the preview of the new skin a while ago?

Just some thoughts. Let me play around some more.

 

 

@ JPMS: Group Admins can now stay with a 50/50 layout but if they want they can convert to the new standard 66/33 split in column widths (see Edit Settings under Admin Tools menu). Modules will continue to have the new skin - which has also been improved a little with the latest release on Friday.

@ Ike: At the moment we have the group 'mail all' members functionality - which if members have their preferences set for receiving WE internal email to 'forward' they get an email message. That can meet some Group Admin needs.

 

Are you looking for a ListServ functionality on WiserEarth, or do you want to keep / or start a Google or Yahoo mail group that somehow integrates with a WiserEarth's group member list? If you want a WE based ListServ that draws from the Group Members what functionality are you looking for? Which of the following:

 

• Sign-up for ListServ via email
• Broadcast email from moderator only
• Reply to ListServ using an specific ListServ email address, and response broadcast back out
• Digest option for ListServ to reduce email frequency
• History of ListServ email traffic on a WiserEarth forum
• Anything else, am I missing something?

If not, how would the WE group member list intergrate with Google or Yahoo? Sorry for all the questions but its good to understand your specific needs, because as you said a number of people have expressed an interest in this.

it's funny you are enacting this now. i only just today started my group. i am not embedded enough to be attached to any format yet. as it is, the format you have chosen looks fine. i like the member  pictures across the top though.    thanks for creating the site.. i have already started to recommend it to people i know.   i love the map app.    annie avery   admin for MAIIMBS.
