hola! i had the chance to watch a screening of the whole thing, too. some very touching little movies, indeed. but still, i do have the question to what extent you can transmit new paradigms within common/conventional language of films and organizing puplic events... and probably there is no either/or, no wright or wrong, it's just challenging my work and my perception of documentaries and events.

What do you think about the effect of images, music and introduction to an array of cultural differences(within the films)? I do understand the lack of power of popular language filled with cliches. I'd love to hear other suggestions about approaches to forming and/or connecting with different or new paradigms. Does it need to involve hands-on aspects where the listener takes on more of an active role? I understand that if all one does is to sit and watch some movies and not take ideas/concepts into action, it is empty.
Peace,

very complex. i think what i did mean is,first, that the conventional way of doing things is so much linked to the conventional content that probably the 'unawakened' mind will not get the difference in content, or at least it requiers a certain kind of alertness and openess. and second, that if you do events/films, etc, in conventional ways you strengthen old paradigms. ultimately it would need a 'new' language. or to start with: a very individual, experience-based language. and of course for me hands-on aspects are always involved in learning. deep sensing, deep feeling, deep observing, deep questioning....and the commitment to act on it.
is that to far out? |

Though my net connection and media connectivity does not allow me to watch Pangea Day movies and TED talks, I'd like to share some thoughts on this subject based on my personal experiences.
I recently received a free-to-deliver DVD by the Global Oneness project and think each short film in the DVD to be highly inspiring and consciousness-shifting. Some of the films which I can personally relate to, kinda "stuck" in my head better than those that didn't.
Wish the organizer of Pangea Day (and TED) provide free-to-deliver DVDs like the Global Oneness project.... |

It seems an important question is, how do we create openness to new paradigms and ideas? And how do we make sure that our "awakened" minds do not exclude the possibility to invite awareness/openness in others? Are we exclusive in our criteria (or language or approach) for who is aware or awakened? Are we disillusioned to think that we are truly "aware"?
From my limited knowledge, it seems there are layers of complexity in life and so many different ways to view the world and each other. Right and wrong are relative and solutions can come from a number of views which can create a similar effect. Maybe an array of diverse approaches is best to reach people in different ways?? (some might be more receptive to emotive, linguistic, kinesthetic, musical & a variety of other types of approaches)
Maybe it takes discomfort or crisis to create change, or some sort of incongruence in our personal being that we need to make understanding of to feel okay in this world.
It'd be great to hear others' views on the matter and continue the dialogue on this issue.
Hopefully they will put Pangea Day on DVD to share with the world... I think it's a good attempt to reach people and present different mindsets which seemed also to present a diversity in thought across cultures. |

"Maybe an array of diverse approaches is best to reach people in different ways?? (some might be more receptive to emotive, linguistic, kinesthetic, musical & a variety of other types of approaches)"
I think that is the way to go. Considering that diversity is the very fabric of life.
A while ago I read this enlightening account on how thinking and paradigms change (for better or worse), and have reproduced it in my blog (for readability purpose only).
Worldviews, Paradigms, Beliefs, Ideologies, Ideas and Social Change
And found this quote from an interesting experiment to be enlightening:
“A bad system produces bad situations in which people act badly without even necessarily knowing why . . . . if enough people absorbed this argument, we might find ourselves in a better polity . . . . But, alas, we seem happier with scapegoats than explanations.” (Philip Zimbardo, from the book: The Lucifer Effect)
Perhaps these can advance our conversation here a little.
As to creating openness to new paradigm and ideas... I'm still kinda groping for answers as the systems (education, religion, economic, politics) in modern society seems to encourage the other way around. Which is to hold dear to what people believe and have. But to change the system one has to change the people first. Again, the answer is perhaps to start whereever and whenever one sees an opening for entry, whether it's on the personal level, or on the national/global level. |

Hi, I am new. I hope i can join you in this conversation...:)
I agrree that we have to start where the people are, ourselves, (well myself anyway ;) ), included. The Integral Method, the all quadrants, all level approach, which are Ken Wilber's theories, are similarly encompassing of diversity. What is important to remember is not to throw the baby out with the bath water when we find new ideas. Many old ideas and ways have facets of worth that we should consider also. |

thank you for so much contribution, i appriciate so much to get your feelings and ideas on this issue :-)
as for me, i think i have to be aware to follow the inner flow - like the chinese call it the 'li'- that there is a pattern and a wisdom for all things to evolve, unpredictable. and that thinking is just thinking, and communication is much more than that. and thinking fragmentates, whereas the true nature is oneness. |

I have gain just that kind of persective lately, as i work on quieting my mind and letting it all unfold in a beautiful tapestry of "isness." let me be quiet. :)

Hello,
I just wanted to alert folks to an event called Pangea Day, which just happened May 10th. It's a day of film that was created by the help of an individual that presented at the TED conference. The founder's goal was to unite the world in film and expand our perspectives of each others' cultures. The festival occurred all over the world at the same time. I had the chance to catch it in a neighboring yoga studio in Portland. The videos can be found below:

Shifting perspectives allows flexibility in one's mind, and opening to hearing different messages. Film seems to be a great medium to allow this to happen.
If you're interested in similar projects put on by people trying to make creative change in our world, check out the TED convention. Their website has a lot of great speeches from intelligent, dynamic people doing amazing things in our world:

Enjoy!
