WiserEarth – Ideas coming together
WiserEarth – Sharing concerns for the future WiserEarth – It’s all we have WiserEarth – Common hopes WiserEarth – Reflecting WiserEarth – Finding a better way WiserEarth – Agreement WiserEarth – Assessing thoughtfully |

WiserEarth - Internet for the sustainable set. WiserEarth - Bringing healthy solutions to our world. WiserEarth - Be a part of humanity's immune system. WiserEarth - The networking site that improves the planet. WiserEarth - Save the planet. WiserEarth - Nonprofits unite! WiserEarth - Tools for communities with causes. WiserEarth - Organizing the largest movement in the world. WiserEarth - Make a difference in your world. WiserEarth - Wising up activists since 2007.
I'm also a big fan of Idealist.org's "Imagine. Connect. Act," and was trying to come up with something in that spirit. |

WiserEarth Global collaboration for social and environmental transformation. |

Where WE work toward a just and sustainable world
|

WiserEarth - Organize locally, connect globally WiserEarth - Setting priorities for an awakened humanity
I like the second one, but we are not actually doing that at this point. I would like to see it happen because the only alternative to a top down controlled world is for us to set priorities bottom up so we can have the coordination we need to make a difference.

Great ideas you all ! Here's my two (rather long) cents. Still can't come up with shorter ones.
WiserEarth: Find Connections, Build Communities, Co-create a Better World WiserEarth: Connecting People, Communities and Ideas. Inspiring Actions for a Better World. |
|
WiserEarth - Building Communities for a Better World. WiserEarth - Connect. Share. Change the World. WiserEarth - Networking for a Sustainable World. WiserEarth - Networking for a Better World. |

What are everyone's ideas on how we make the final selection of this tagline? Should we put it to some kind of vote?

Wiser Earth - To Our Future
|
|
WiserEarth - Learn. Share. Connect. Create. WiserEarth - Building a Wiser Community WiserEarth - Making the Net Work for Sustainability I think we should layout all the ideas in a wikipage and give each person 5 votes. We should be able to cut away many of them, and then discuss the most popular ones! |
|
Great idea Nasher - I like the 5 votes per person. I wonder how we could integrate the voting idea onto the site? Perhaps we could use the survey software that Bowo used to send out the editors questionnaire to vote on these ideas?

Here are a few more....
WiserEarth: Connecting Communities of Action WiserEarth: Connecting You to Communities of Action WiserEarth: Connecting the Sustainable World WiserEarth: Where the Sustainable World gets Connected WiserEarth: Find the people who are changing the world WiserEarth: Making Connections for a Just and Sustainable World WiserEarth: Making Connections across the Global Network of Changemakers |

Hello everyone,
Really nice to see more fresh and excellent ideas.
@Kerry: Yes, let's think of a way to vote.
@Nasher: I really like your clever use of the word 'network' and also the idea to select nominated taglines for final voting.
@Camilla: The survey for group members uses SurveyMonkey.com's service. While it's a good tool to collect opinions and conduct research, it's not suitable for use as a voting tool. The main problem is that it's not transparent. There's no way to verify a 'vote' casted via a survey.
I suggest we make good use of WiserEarth's wikipage feature: 1. List all taglines in the wikipage 2. Devise voting rules (e.g.one person 5 votes for 'elimination' round, no change in votes allowed) 3. Devise voting mechanism (e.g. Add +1 to the taglines chosen, and post a comment listing voted taglines) 4. Verify the votes by each group member via the wikipage's 'Show History' feature. This can be done by reviewing revision #1 to the latest one and ensure that everyone is casting the vote (by editing the wikipage) along the rules and mechanism established (e.g. no one intentionally add +2 for a vote). This way, we can track down a vote to a particular user.
And here's another idea, cross-fertilizing (well.. partly imitating...) Monica's and Nasher's ;)
WiserEarth - Learn. Grow. Share. Connect. Converse. Act. Change the World. or just
WiserEarth - Learn. Grow. Share. Connect. Converse. Act. Change.
The 'Learn. Grow. Share. Connect. Converse' part can already be well-facilitated by WiserEarth. The 'Act. Change.' part should be facilitated further by the upcoming Solutions entity (a.k.a. 'Best Practices', a new type of entity beside organization, group, people, resource, event, job, wikipage). Here's an example of a solution page.
And perhaps by Scott's (wolf) bringing in his gang of Creative Citizen and solutions? :)

On the topic of voting.
If everyone who would like to nominate an idea creates a wikipage with one tagline on it, we can use our new voting system to vote on each tagline. Example:
I nominate Bowo's tagline:
WiserEarth: Find Connections, Build Communities, Co-create a Better World Please vote for this tagline by clicking on the above link, adding a comment at the bottom of the page, with five stars selected if you think it is a good idea.
The page with the most number of stars wins!
Does this sound like a good way to vote? |
|
Also, we should probably include the original tagline in the voting as well, assuming we want to use the proposed star system.
WiserEarth: Toward a Just and Sustainable World Created by Community
If we do end up using the stars to vote, I suggest we all name the wikipages the same thing, "Proposed Tagline"
This way we can just do a search for wikipages and the term, "proposed tagline" and all of them will come up without hunting. Then I can keep a master menu of all of the proposals so we don't miss any.
Make sense? |

Thank you Jacqueline (Ideologue) and Ian for chipping in your thoughts.
On voting: Would be great if we can make use of the recently implemented rating system for voting too. One thing to remember is that voting is about number/quantity, while ratings is more about quality.
I think it's enough to use a single wikipage for the screening phase (along the lines of Nasher's and my ideas) as there are too many suggestions to create a wikipage for each. For the final voting, we may be able use a separate wikipage for each tagline and allow voters to both vote (by adding +1 to the title) and rate (by adding a comment and a rating with each vote) as Ian suggested.
This would however begs the question of what criteria to use in selecting the winner? Number of votes? Number of ratings casted? Number of stars? Or all three? Or just two? Which? How?
Two more things.
1. There is the possibility that the winner of the voting may just be the kind of tagline that sound nice to hear and popular but is not the best to represent WiserEarth. How do we ensure that those nominated for the final voting will be in line with our need for a representative tagline?
2. Should we start soliciting ideas from the greater WiserEarth community? How do you propose we go about this? |
|
I know that one person can cast one vote on each wikipage, so no one could get two votes. If everyone just selected five stars for the vote, then we could count the number of votes and we would have a fairly decent elections system. So, number of votes would be the primary measure of the best tagline.
I think for brainstorming taglines, this forum would be a good place to aggregate ideas, then for a tagline that is particularly good or seems to have popular support, we could create a new wikipage for the vote.
On your other points, it is true, we might not get the most representational tagline from a vote. I think we should use the tools we have (ie this forum) for soliciting feedback from the wider community, lets just redirect people here. |

Hello everyone,
I know that many, if not all of us love the current tagline: Toward a Just and Sustainable World Created by Community. As a mission statement, it works quite well, but as a tagline that first time visitors will read, it may need to be replaced with something better.
A good tagline should give a sense of place and purpose immediately. It should also be clear and informative and help to convey differentiation as well as a clear benefit. As it always appears right below or next to the logo, it needs to be reasonably short (e.g. 6-8 words).
Here are some examples of good taglines for some sites:
Wikipedia: The free encyclopedia that anyone can edit
Alibris: Books you thought you'd never find
ComputerUnderground.com: The hottest cheats for the hottest games
BabyCenter: Cradle and all
WiserEarth needs one. Wouldn't it be cool if what you suggested will be that one placed under the logo going forward?
Got ideas?
