Hi Nancy,
I made a note of your excellent suggestion, so that it will be implemented when the tech team is revising this feature. I'm glad you're enjoying the map. By "odd", you may be referring to jobs that are not linked to a specific destination. In this case, they seem to be clumped into balloons in the middle of nowhere. Thank you for your contribution to the WiserEarth community. Keep em coming! Rachel |

It would be really helpful if jobs were listed by country, STATE and city in that order of priority rather than just country and town.

Hi Nancy, Jessica and Rachel,
Thanks for looking into the Jobs section of the site. There seems to be a great deal of work to do in improving the listing and search functions. I suggest (attention programmers) adding email submission functionality. This would make it possible for busy professionals working to build their non-profits, do research and managing complex projects to advertise positions (and events) without the trouble of joining the site. I would like to put together a group to develop an email format that will allow organizations to send an email that would post a job with all required and other fields in a 'needs approval' state. Any 'job posting email' sent from a domain listed under an associated organization, would be allowed and posted for review (perhaps a fast-track option for confirmed email addresses could be implemented to side-step some of the process). I would love to hear your reaction to this idea and also discuss feasibility. James |

When posting a job, there should be a link to "add another job at this organization" that would duplicate a lot of the information at the top and the areas of focus. Thanks for reading!

To be more clear:
The Post a Job form, Areas of Focus search function, should find the Areas of Focus attributed to jobs or organizations containing the search term (in keywords or in description, etc). |
|
For example:
If I want to list 20 jobs from the ACLU, I should be able to search, ACLU in the AOF box and attribute the same list to each job (unless a position is more specialized for whatever reason). |

regarding e-mail submission functionality...sure, it'll probably be further down the road to development though.
I really like the "add another job" addition, to automatically duplicate info. I'm not totally clear on what you mean by "The Post a Job form, Areas of Focus search function, should find the Areas of Focus attributed to jobs or organizations containing the search term (in keywords or in description, etc)..." Are you just saying you want the info. to be duplicated from orgs that have already listed job descriptions? |

Well, obviously one of the best-in-class model of autopopulating information from an organization to a job profile is LinkedIn. How easily that is done, I don't think it'll be impossible, but is it as critical as getting the basics done correctly first? Probably not. We are looking into revamping the jobs to make ti more up to date, more searchable, and more easy to filter out based on your preferences (AoFs, keywords, related jobs, etc). So until we sort that out, advanced submission features like emails won't be on the roadmap for a bit. Good idea all the same - it's something we can explore when we have the basics down pat.

Thanks for the reply! That makes sense. Improved searchability is important. One very valuable feature of this site however is to decide on a location and then look for jobs there (say, you want to move to New York to be with your girlfriend).
This feature (and many other related functions) is only really useful if we have a much larger selection of jobs to choose from. I feel like our priorities should be to: 1) attract organizations to post jobs (something we haven't done so well at thus far) 2) allow interested organizations and staff to upload jobs/events/resources more efficiently 3) enhance linkability between events, orgs, jobs, people and resources (auto-link by website domain for example) - when a user joins, their email domain name should automatically create a link to any org with the same domain. 4) introduce main pictures for all of the entities, particularly orgs (move profile pic code over to the other objects and tweak the css? is it more complicated than that?). Is it possible for us to open a second channel for posting information that would allow importing of TRUSTED data (i.e. email a populated form in .txt to one of the developers to be uploaded)? Thanks again for engaging in the conversation with me! |

The map of jobs is fun, but there is something odd happening off the west coast of Africa....
