Hi, Shaina,
I don't know how to send a reply to the whole group. Could you please do so with this email and maybe also give me a call to walk me through the procedure? Many thanks for taking the initiative on another meeting & the proposed seed exchange. I really love the idea of us developing an active guild here in Sac! Anyway, in support of the seed exchange/meeting, I could offer our place --on F St between 44th & 45th, about 6-7 blocks from either the 34 or 30 RT routes-- but not until the first weekend in April. It would give us a good incentive to get the front half of the house presentable. If the weather's decent, we could set things up on our front porch &/ use the driveway for plants. I'd favor a daytime event, and I'd be happy to provide snacks & beverages. I have a shoeboxful of business return envelopes that could be used to take the selected seeds home. Besides quite a few seeds, I think I'll have a 1+ year old fig, that I rooted from my parents' tree, along with strawberry plants and maybe some other starts or seedlings. If someone else could host earlier, great. (I hope I can "act as if" we're having the event here, anyway, and then it would be available for another time!) To a lush & fertile spring! (And good luck at the City Council on Tuesday!!) Patsy |

I really like the direction you are going with the little mini workshops and such. Especially if it provides to chance to get dirty. I've read about all I can about earthen plasters and natural building but without actually making something it's stagnant knowledge.

Hints of spring are in the air, and warm days intermingle with ones in which we get some much needed rain. As I am looking at seed catalogues and thinking about my garden, I was wondering if folks were interested in meeting as a permaculture guild (in formation?), perhaps exchanging seeds?
There has been interest expressed in having a seed and plant exchange. This would be much fun as as we prepare to plant our gardens. People could bring their own heirlooms, or the other 20 seeds in a packet they bought commercially, or some of the seedling people start optimistically. Unless there is a lot of interest in organizing this on a larger scale, we could just do it informally as an excuse to meet. Perhaps in later March, as the next two weekends are fairly full for me. What dates are good for folks? Where would be a good space to meet?
At that time, we could also plan other things we want to do such as work days or site designs in each other's gardens.
We also have a lot to learn from each other. We have among the local folks here people trained not only in permaculture and skills in gardening, but also trained in transition towns, Eileen Ingram's composting skills, people skilled in raw foods, fermenting, earth building, and I am sure, much more. Perhaps as part of a (monthly?) meeting we could have an informal presenter sharing some of these skills. Any offers?
I don't make it out to Grass Valley very much, but I admire the way the Sierra Permaculture Guild meetings always seems to include something fun and educational.
Also, I do occasionally post events and stuff on the webpage
http://www.wiserearth.org/group/sacpermaguild , so be sure to check, or better yet, to join and post there.
So again, what dates are good for folks to meet and maybe exchange seeds if folks are into it? Where would be a good space to meet?
Cheers,
Shaina
