I think the phrase "in all its forms" already include discrimination regarding disabilities. The charter has been ratified years ago and I haven't heard of any consideration to update/reword it. Perhaps you can contact people from Earth Charter International if you specifically want to include the word "diability", as they don't seem to be active in this group (though they created the group). |

In section III: 12, the charter lists forms of discrimination, individually. Really disability needs to be included. People with disabilities have a lot to offer, yet they cannot participate in society if they cannot get in. There are still many places that they cannot get to simply because no one has thought to make them accessible. In some countries they are locked away and not able to fulfill their full potential.
If my daughter had been born in a different country, at a different time, doctors would have decided not to treat her when she was born, because they used to think that her disability disqualified her from experiencing a high quality of life. She is now 21 years old, she is in college on a music scholarship because she is an excellent violin player. Even though she lives in America where discrimination against people with disabilities is illegal, she still encounters discrimination every day.
Please, include the word disability in the list in the charter. Eliminate discrimination in all its forms, such as that based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion, language, and national, ethnic or social origin. |

A community effort to create an universally accessible website with the text of the Earth Charter and some basic information like an updated list of affiliates and Internet resources is now taking place. It was started because the official websites do not conform to web accessibility standards like WCAG and Section 508, and some PDFs are actually images and cannot be parsed by search engines or screen readers.
The EC text will be available in several textual (PDF, ODT, RTF, TXT) and audio (OGG, MP3) formats for easy reuse. We want to check and correct the translations where necessary as they are not perfect for some languages too.
Drafts of design will be ready within the next several days and will be brought up for duscussion. That's an open democratic process, so let's also discuss other things like additional content, etc. All kinds of participation are very welcome. |

Vladimir,
That sounds like a very good idea. Can you share the URL of the website?
Thanks, Bowo P.S. Feel free to start a discussion topic from the group homepage by hovering your mouse over the pencil icon int the "Conversations and Stories" section and click "Create a new discussion". |

The charter seeks to eliminate discrimination in all its forms....as copied below:
Eliminate discrimination in all its forms, such as that based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, language, and national, ethnic or social origin.
I think it is important to include disability.... people with disabilities are discriminated against all around the world and should be listed in the charter as those who definitely need protection. Please consider.
