Area of Focus – Read the Port Huron Statement a frame of thought from yesterday’s activist written for our modern times. Solution based Global Thinking...

Hi everyone,

To all those on Wiserearth who may be looking for a point of view a way of looking at things a perspective that is both individually integral and globally rendered as to a way of thought toward planetary action if you have never read the Port Huron Statement crafted by those of the then newly formed Students for a Democratic Society the SDS written in 1962 bearing the name from the location it was written Port Huron Michigan. The Port Huron Statement first sited as an Agenda for A Generation has become over time a prophetic Agenda for all Generations who are looking to better the world around them. Yes the Cold War is gone (But is it?) whereby many of the fundamental background situations or circumstances as was seen then are eerily familiar today merely displaced by time. Problems like war, hunger, disproportional allocation of resources, energy independence and the list goes on.

Below is a link to access the Port Huron Statement where it was rendered from former Senator Tom Hayden’s website in PDF form. Tom Hayden was one of creators of the Port Huron Statement in 1962 along with around 75 or so other people you might say a good cross section of society from the vantage point of that society given that age group generally of college age at that time. And originally if memory serves there were 20,000 copies made (keep in mind in those days to make copies you used what was called a Mimeograph Machine it was time consuming and somewhat messy with ink) which were distributed or sold for only a couple of dollars at best , maybe two bucks.

Read it carefully and digest it slowly (keep in mind the time frame it was written) and it will open your eye’s to whole system cohesive thought I look at the Port Huron Statement as a basic field guide as a part of Boot Camp for any budding or would be Planetary Developers out there which I assume people out here on wiserearth are on their way to becoming.
