Greetings Wiserearth peeps,

The best aspect of the "Jobs" catagory is the ability to search by location. How can I do the same for "Groups" or "Areas of Focus"? I assume all registered groups have a listed city/state/country... I'm in the job market, and want to cold-connect with like-minded groups in my area...

thanks,
sam

Hi Sam,

When the Groups feature was originally created, we envisioned them being used by people from around the world that had a common interest in the group's mission. So the initial release of groups did not provide for the capability you are looking for.

But my initial impression is that it would be a useful feature. While some groups will be geographically indifferent, some will be location focused and people should be able to find groups in their area. Hopefully a future improvement to the groups feature will include the capability you are looking for.

Regarding Areas of Focus, you cannot search them by geographic location through the Areas of Focus link directly. It is possible to click on 'Organizations' on the left-hand toolbar, then select Advanced Search, and then look for all organizations tagged with Water Rights in California (as an example). You could also do this Advanced Search and specific an Area of Focus for People, Resources, and Jobs (as you know).

I hope that helps for know. Let me know if you have more questions.

This reminds me... is it possible now or will it be possible to export a spreadsheet of some large set of information including friends list, org relationships, groups, events etc?

Nice suggestion...It would be pretty helpful to just have a "print page" option to easily get a hard copy of search results for organizations, events, etc. I can see this happening one day. It'd be kinda weird to be able to print out everybody's connections.
