1) I think Van Jones had the greatest impact on me. He made the comment that we, as environmentalists, often neglect the human aspect of things. This really hit home to me, as I am definitely one of those people. I have focused so much on helping the animals and caring for the earth (for the sake of the animals - the benefits to humans was just a bonus) and I'm ashamed to admit that I really haven't paid a lot of attention to my fellow humans. Her comments on the U.S. prison system, in particular, struck me the hardest. This is actually because this is an area I have recently begun studying for other reasons and had already begun to realize the ineffectiveness and cruelty of our system and the attitude of "punishment" instead of "rehabilitation" - especially for youth, who still have the ability to "relearn" skills to survive acceptably in society.
2) I attended Bioneers in my hometown in Logan, Utah, so I'm unsure the last question truly applies to me... but I'll answer anyway: The session on Utah biodiesel was interesting, as this is a topic I (sadly) have not paid a whole lot of attention to and, therefore, knew little about. He gave a very objective lecture, with the pros and cons of biodiesel, the various kinds of seeds used here in Utah, and the pros and cons for each seed type. Fascinating stuff. 3) Once again, I attended Bioneers elsewhere. Once again, I'll answer anyway: About an 8 - excellent, in that is was tasty and they made a great effort to use local produce. |

1) What Bioneers speaker inspired you the most, why?
2) What afternoon session was most interesting to you? 3) How was the food, on a scale of 1(inedible) - 10(amazing)? |

I agree with the comments about Van Jones.
What do the Bioneers people think about :
There was a disscussion in the Wiser University Group :
http://www.wiserearth.org/forum/view/b4e38c2eb7135baf6cc0b6550c6844d2/group/weversity
The discussion focused upon the development of a Futures Studies
course for high school students. The hope was for Wiser Earthlings to develop
the course and than perhaps partner with the annual www.bioneers.org
conference to market it: a primary goal being to bring more teachers and
young people to both A)wiserearth B)bioneers.
Subsequently influence would expand dramatically for both organizations and all their associates/ affiliates over the long term...
What about any efforts on the horizon to INTERNATIONALIZE the Beaming Bioneers Satellite coverage. Are they already working on this? I didn't see any international locations on the website...
It seems the growing International network on Wiser Earth could prove to be an excellent resource.
What exactly is involved with setting up for a satelitte conference location; what would a city need to host such an event in A) U.S. B) International.
Why is there not more of an effort to aggressively internationalize the satellite conference locations and include / support some philanthropic big-picture business initatives that have have the potential to provide a model for other elite corporations; Recent Bono/ Bill Gates/ Michael Dell RED collaborations re the Africa/ Aids, in support of a return to values based consumerism...

Why not use that kind of thing as a blueprint / model for other corporations with international influence to support development of Green For All type initatives...
Are there certain places where it is utterly not practical to apply the Green For All vision?
In those locations are there ways to thematically apply the vision in a different way?
A way that supports a global effort consistent with the intended impact of the vision?;
Lift disadvantaged people out of poverty with employment that contributes toward solutions of environmental problems -- subsequent 'pathways out of poverty' etc. for individuals/ communities / nations that enage in this work?
Are there already progams that work on this?
Is there a specific Bionneers contact who can provide information about confirmed vs prospective speakers for the 2008 conference?
Do conference locations voluntarily seek out the Bioneers or does the Bioneers actively recruit satellite conference locations etc.
What are other ways to bring in/ reach the international community?
I was thinking speakers/ topics that focus on international efforts that run parallel / have the potential to support the fledgling Green For All initiative here in the U.S. ?
There seems to be some interesting things happening in Dubai... ?
What about some qualified individual involved in the strategic sustainability design of Dubai who could discuss the potential/ and pitfalls of globalization in the middle east?
And perhaps theorize on the ways the 'Green For All' vision could apply internationally but specifically in relation to volatile areas like the middle east where there is A) rich history of conflict B) culture is challenged by globalization.
