About

Community Development Project in Jordan

21 Nov - 5 Dec 2009

This project will involve spending two weeks in Jordan supporting our Expert Partner in their initiatives to fight hunger. Volunteers will work on a school programme initiative that feeds hungry children in school in order to help them concentrate better on their studies. Volunteers will also work in a centre providing food support to local families.

Supported by The Great Generation staff and our expert partner, volunteers will look at ways to support people into livelihood opportunities through microfinance.

Who should take part in this project?

This is an open project and we are looking for people with a range of different skills they can bring to this project. All volunteers are welcome.

Information about taking part in this project

If you are interested in taking part in this project you will need to fill in a volunteer registration form and provide two references.

To confirm an initial offer of a place on the project you will need to transfer a £100 non-refundable donation. Volunteers are asked to fundraise a set amount of money that covers your flights, food, local transport and accommodation. Most of the services we use on the project, such as accommodation, food and transport, are sourced from the community you will be working in to help stimulate the local economy.

The fundraising also goes towards the community in two ways. One part helps to set up a microfinance fund in the community, which is used to help local people create livelihoods for themselves. The second part is provided as an infrastructure grant to the community such as a water tank or sports equipment.

Briefings

Volunteers must attend two half-day briefings. It is important that you attend both briefings as we use this time to do planning for the project as well as getting you prepared for the community you will be volunteering in for the two weeks.
