About [Edit]
Today is your chance to learn about beads. We'll trace parts of their history, specifically looking at their ties to 17th and 18th-century New York. We'll discuss the African Burial Ground in New York City, wampum's use in the early Dutch colony of New Amsterdam, and modern-day bead use for creating a sustainable livelihood after being freed from slavery.
