Peter Schultze-Allen, Environmental Analyst for the City of Emeryville, LEED AP
Emeryville has dense development patterns, heavy soils, an industrial history and high groundwater levels.
Stormwater treatment features for this urban bayside setting include bio- retention features such as flow-through planter boxes and rain gardens, infiltration with sub-drainage, permeable paving, bio-filtration swales, podium and roof plantings, and water storage. Emeryville’s Stormwater Guideline’s for Dense, Green Development can be found at: www.ci.emeryville.ca.us/planning/pdf/stormwater_guidelines.pdf.

Peter is an extremely proficient environmental analyst and program developer. His ideas, vision and attention to nuance and detail have produced many leading efforts in the recycling and waste reduction realm in particular. Peter made the transition from recycling to sustainability flawlessly, bringing with him all of the skills and awareness that produce a professional who can function very effectively in many issue realms and with varied stakeholders. On top of all that, Peter is just a really great person to work with - a team player that always keeps his eye on the best outcome for the community and planet.

David@GO2Water.net

GO2 Water is an environmental solutions company with patented, commercially-proven processes for treating wastewater and for recovering bioenergy, nutrients, and water for reuse while operating within a carbon-neutral ecological footprint.  Our innovative and unique technology has a forty-year operational history and has been placed at municipal and industrial facilities to meet U.S. EPA discharge standards at less than half the investment and one-third the operational costs of conventional wastewater treatment technologies.

David is an environmental chemist with a broad interdisciplinary background in physical, biological and social sciences. He received his M.S. from the Energy & Resources Group and a Ph.D. in Agricultural & Environmental Chemistry, both at the University of California, Berkeley, where he specialized in Chemical Ecology—the interaction of plants and animals at the chemical level. While at UC Berkeley he was honored with two Regents Fellowships and the Macy Award for excellence in entomology. He has consulted to private industry concerning cork production, pest management, biological wastewater treatment, sustainability, and biomimetic product design, including work for Nike, IDEO, and the Green Chemistry Institute. David founded two companies in Guatemala: a non-profit organization called Altertec that teaches Permaculture to small farmers; and Mayacert, the country’s largest organic certification agency.  He has 2 patents for naturally-derived insecticides, has several peer-reviewed publications, and speaks Spanish and Portuguese. His interests lie in green chemistry, industrial ecology, ecological design, biomimicry, evolutionary psychology, and ecological wastewater treatment.  In his free time he enjoys travel, photography, ultimate frisbee, and gardening. David is a co-founder and principal with GO2 Water.

About the Burn Green Soiree:
http://groups.google.com/group/burn-green/

This group is an ACTION-oriented group focused on developing innovative, creative, out-of-the-box solutions to sustainability "problems" in the areas of energy/power/renewables, recycling/composting/gray water, carbon mitigation, food security, transportation, land use, environmental education.

The members are representatives of city/county governments, sustainability/environmental/technology development businesses and nonprofits, funders with deep pockets, as well as artists, designers, inventors, engineers, mechanics.  The idea is to connect the ingenuity, out-of-the-box design strategies and the humor and engaged nature of artists and activists to those forging the arena of sustainability problem solving.

The ethos is based in open hand, open source, cooperative development of projects that address immediate, localized sustainability issues.

This is a participant-driven group, which meets once a month in the SF Bay Area, providing 2 presentations on innovative projects, discussion of what is needed and how to accomplish, specific project development, and open networking.  The goal, beyond information sharing, is to identify specific sustainability needs/issues and develop specific solutions that are innovative and fun, as well as to access available funding for project development and implementation.
