Day 1—September 11—Kick off Celebration


8:30-9:15a.m.        Arizona Interfaith Movement led by Paul Eppinger:
School Meets in StarShine Peace Garden to Honor Peaceful Change

9:15-9:30a.m.    Students, Staff and Visitors Write Messages of Peace to be placed in the Peace Capsule on the International Day of Peace, September 21

9:45a.m.-3:00p.m.    Regular Activities and 11 Days Lesson Plans

Day 2—September 12—Agriculture Day


8:30-10:30a.m.    Compost Project—School Creates Composters for Peace Garden—Led By Garden Volunteer Willie Sommers

10:30a.m.-3:00p.m.    Regular Activities and 11 Days Lesson Plans for all not participating in Soil Types

1:45-2:45p.m.    Soil Types—Led by High School Student Lizzie Valadez—Ms. Combs, Mr. Atonna, Mr. Jensen in cafeteria

Day 3—September 13—Education Day


9:30-11:00a.m.    Discussion on Self-Esteem & Peak Performance for Jr. High & High School High School led by Ron Nielson, Retired Pilot & Motivational Speaker

8:30a.m.-1:00p.m.    Regular Activities and 11 Days Lesson Plans for K-6

1:00-2:00p.m.    Deb’s Dragons & Other Misunderstood Creatures—An Interactive Animal Presentation Including Peaceful Pythons of Africa and Hissing Cockroaches of Madagascar—K-12 in the Cafeteria

2:00-3:00    Special Guest Victoria Crawford Visits and Explores Student Leadership Opportunities High School in the High School

Day 4—September 14—Featured Guest Speaker


8:00a.m.-12p.m    Regular Activities and 11 Days Lesson Plans K-6

9:30-10:15    Local Activist, Entrepreneur, Founder and Editor of One Planet Magazine, and now, candidate for Congress, Annie Lloyd, speaks to Jr. High & High School on the power of community action—Cafeteria

Day 5—September 15—AZDOP Campaign & Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine present:


9:00a.m.-noon     Peacelinks Summit: Families+Education+Health=Peace
Arthur Hamilton Elementary School: 2020 Durango, Phoenix

Day 7—September 17—Health Day


8:15-9:00a.m.    Renowned Healer & Founder of Heart of Courage, Karen Wilson, leads students K-6 in the ancient practice of Qi Gong

9:15-10:00a.m.    Renowned Healer & Founder of Heart of Courage, Karen Wilson, leads students 7-12th grades in the ancient practice of Qi Gong

10:00a.m.-1:00p.m.    Regular Activities and 11 Days Lesson Plans

1:00-2:00p.m.    The East/West Rejuvenation Clinic of Scottsdale guides the entire student body in the practice of meditation in the cafeteria

2:15-3:00p.m.    Students sample healthy snack alternatives in the cafeteria

Day 8—September 18—Culture Day


9:00-10:30a.m    Dilara Hafiz speaks about the book she wrote with her children, Imran and Yasmine: The American Muslim Teenager's Handbook.  Misty Cisneros talks about the Phoenix Sister Cities Program.  Both are for Jr. High & High School in the cafeteria

Day 9—September 19—Water Day


8:30a.m.-2:30p.m.    Becky Brietwieser of the Gladys McGarey Foundation does an all-day demonstration on Solar Cooking—Three Groups of students (30 total) needed

8:30a.m.-2:30p.m.    The rest of the students participate in water use survey and other 11 Days Lesson Plans

2:30p.m.-3:00p.m.    Student Body Meets in Cafeteria to sample Solar Cooking—Yum!

Day 10—September 20—Ecology Day


TBA    Institute of EcoTurism discusses Ecological Footprints—Cafeteria whole school


Day 11—September 21—International Day of Peace—World Peace Day


6:00a.m.    AZDOP Hosts a Sunrise Meditation at THE CASA (not at StarShine) Everyone is welcome to attend! Please see the AZDOP website for more information

9:00a.m.-11:00a.m.    Celebration of International Day of Peace—Flag Ceremony, Rededication of the Peace Pole by the AZDOP led by Terri Mansfield, Songs & Meditations on Peace, messages of Peace are placed in the Peace Capsule

6:00p.m.-8:00p.m.    10th Annual United Nations Peace Pals Art Exhibition Hosted by StarShine Academy
