About
Central Coast 350.org action on International Day of Climate Change Action Saturday 24 October 2009
1. 350+ organisations (e.g. churches, schools, businesses, community groups etc) with banners (organisational and 350.0rg) meet at Duffys Road Reserve, Terrigal and
2. walk 3.50 Kilometres to The Skillion (an icon of the Central Coast of New South Wales)
3. where the numbers 3-5-0 will be outlined in happy, smiling people of all ages and photographed.
4. There will be a presentation at 3.50pm to Belinda Neal (Federal Member for Robertson) or Kevin Rudd (the Prime Minister of Australia) depending on availability.
5. The presentation will be a petition signed by people of the Central Coast requiring that the Federal Government recognize the latest climate science advising that 350 ppm of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is the maximum target on which the International Copenhagen Climate talks should be focusing in December.
6. A primed canvas stretched on a frame 3.50 feet square and with the logo 350 painted as large as aesthetically sensible in red or black and signed by all those marching using permanent markers in many rainbow colours will also be completed on 24 October for use at a later date. (e.g. maybe auctioned for charity)
7. It is suggested that this presentation to the Federal Government representative might be made by the Greens Councillors of Gosford City Council and/or Wyong Shire Council (depending on availability).
8. The entire event will be Non-Smoking and Alcohol-Free so that all age groups can participate and families can enjoy the day.
9. The intention is to make several additional similar canvases (which will be 350 mm square) before the event (i.e. during the next 4 months) to show people what we want, which would be signed by various groups and individuals before the 24 October and carried by the walkers at the front of the walk and which could be auctioned for some worthy charity after the event.
10. It is intended that this Climate Action event be primarily organised by Permaculture Central Coast and a voluntary, passionate steering group and open to additional ideas around the 350ppm theme from anyone who cares to participate!
Additional thoughts:
1. an evening of entertainment and fun for all the family at The Haven maybe in the Trojans Club if it is raining! - drumming, fire twirling, Jake Cassar etc etc
