About

Permaculture is a complete design system, based on principles of ecology and sustainability that is used to create healthy, resilient, economically stable, and productive homes, businesses, and communities in all landscape, climatic, and cultural contexts. Join the New Leaf Regenerative Design team for a weekend of advanced Nature Awareness training and Permaculture Design at RFM, Inc.'s, corporate campus in Brighton, MI!

Friday evening talk: Permaculture and Nature Awareness - Our Human Inheritance, the Foundation of Regeneration
The evening will be story-rich and transformative. We will touch on everything from ecological design, to mentoring and Richard Louv's "Last Child in the Woods", to ecological economy, to advanced awareness of nature and self. Participants will gain:
  • Answers to the question "What is Permaculture?"
  • Knowledge of the core routines of nature connection
  • Clear direction for how to begin to apply patterns in nature as design templates for regeneration of community, ecology, and economy
  • Knowledge of available design solutions in Permaculture: perennial food systems, energy systems, smart solar design, aquaculture, local currencies, and more!
Saturday daylong workshop: Permaculture Design Charette and Nature Awareness Training
Our team will facilitate an energized and eye-opening day of advanced Nature Awareness training for participants with the dual purpose of beginning to give solution-direction to the landowner's goals and questions for Permaculture Design. Through involvement at all phases of this exciting process, participants will come away with:
  • A renewed and strengthened sense of connection to nature
  • A set of powerful tools for nature connection and stewardship of Earth and community
  • Connection to others in the area who are playing a critical role in the long-term economic, cultural and ecological regeneration of SE MI.
  • A working understanding of how to begin designing for regeneration in their own lives!
Location
This course takes place at RFM, Inc.'s corporate campus in Brighton, MI. RFM purchased the land (previously farmland) for industrial development in 1982. We will be asking one major question: "What is required of a cutting tool manufacturing business in southeastern Michigan, with strong links to a faltering automotive industry, to plan for 100 years of success and regeneration starting now?" The remaining forests surrounding are oak forests on steep slopes, with the other major ecological feature being extensive wetlands that surround on all sides - home to herons, muskrats, geese, foxes, coyotes, deer, and many other species!

Food and Lodging
Quality restaurant choices are available in the nearby town of Brighton. During the Saturday field day, please be prepared with a lunch to eat out doors. Please come prepared with a potluck dish (that won't need preparation) to share during Saturday's dinner.

Course Fees
$75.00 includes Friday evening talk. Registration ends August 21, 2009.

Refund Policy
Cancellations up to 2 weeks before the course begins (August 17) will be refunded, excluding a $20 processing fee. No refunds are given after August 17.
