About
Friends and colleagues of ECOT would recall that twenty five years ago church networks and concerned individuals gave birth to ECOT – at the time known as Ecumenical Coalition on Third World Tourism – in response to the emerging directions in tourism. Over the years, ECOT has been a focal point for networking and advocacy for justice and humanity in tourism. Today, the tourism industry has become even more massive, and the associated issues and concerns have proliferated too. Climate change, access to resources, sexual exploitation and human trafficking, HIV AIDS, violation of human rights come to mind, to name a few. There have also been positive developments such as Community Based Tourism. In light of the further growth forecast in tourism, it is imperative that those with concern about tourism have an opportunity to come together, take stock, and engage on the appropriate and effective responses that are needed for the times ahead. ECOT invites you to join this Conference: 'Taking Stock, Moving Ahead:
Transforming/Re-forming Tourism' This gathering will be a forum for dialogue, discussion, and exchange of views and experience to focus on the challenges arising from the structure and orientation of contemporary, worldwide tourism, and ways forward. It will look at the role of governments, the tourism industry, and tourists in responding justly and ethically given the social, cultural, economic, political, and ecological impact of tourism. In true ECOT tradition, the Conference will enable an ambience and framework for encouraging one another and help develop, renew and strengthen networking among those concerned, both in the South and North.
see: www.ecotonline.org for the Registration Form

We particularly hope that those who have supported and have had links with ECOT will attend.
