September 21 has been designated the International Day of Peace by a United Nations resolution on September 7, 2001.  This day is celebrated all over the world by events, large and small, focused on promoting peace in the world.  The International Day of Peace will be commemorated at Bellevue Community College with an event on Sunday evening, September 21, 2008 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.  This family-friendly event will include art, music, a giant Peace Dove parade, folk dance, the World Peace Prayer ceremony, candle lighting ceremony, poetry and a concert by world-renown troubadour for peace and the environment: Dana Lyons.

A quote from UN General Secretary Ban-ki Moon:  September 21, the Annual International Day of Peace, is an occasion to take stock of our efforts to promote peace and well-being for all people everywhere. It is an opportunity to appreciate what we have already accomplished, and to dedicate ourselves to all that remains to be done. On this International Day, let us promise to make peace not just a priority, but a passion. Let us pledge to do more, wherever we are in whatever way we can, to make every day a day of peace."
