About  [Edit]

This November, the second annual Business Ethics Week at San Francisco State’s College of Business will create a shared focus among faculty and students on the importance of business ethics, corporate social responsibility and sustainable business. During Business Ethics Week II, faculty members are encouraged to include case studies, readings, speakers, exercises and discussions relating to these ethical dilemmas in business practice.

Business Ethics Week II will run from Monday, November 5 through Friday, November 9 at both the main campus and the downtown campus. There will be two College-wide events at the downtown campus featuring Jon Hoak, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Hewlett-Packard and Ms. Kim Winston, Manager of Civic and Community Affairs at Starbucks.

During the first Business Ethics Week in November 2006, over 4,000 business students at SF State's College of Business heard from more than 50 business and industry experts on topics related to business ethics. The College embraced the topic with approximately 50% of faculty integrating ethics-related modules or speakers. Campus-wide events included a former CIO of PG&E on the topic of Corporate Ethics and a faculty panel on the topic of corporations and the environment.

SF State’s College of Business is one of the few business schools that require all graduate and undergraduate business students to take a Business & Society course—and has for the past 25 years. Many of our faculty members in fields such as finance, accounting, marketing, information systems, decision sciences, management, international business and hospitality management, integrate modules on ethics and social responsibility in their courses. In addition, SF State’s College of Business is the first California State University to offer an MBA with an Emphasis in Sustainable Business.
