About

West African Harvest Festival PLURK  at Avalon Springs
with Amadou Camara from Guinea, Annie Lapham, Sibyl Gomez, and others.

This month’s PLURK (Play+Work+ U in the middle) promises to be an extra-special celebration of abundance and community at Avalon Springs.

Join us on Saturday, August 30th As we work in Avalon’s beautiful garden, drummers will play traditional West African farming rhythms for harvesting as dancers honor the earth and spirit for this bounty. Listening to the rhythms will help our work find its own groove. As we move our hearts and feet into Earth Mother’s soil, you will enjoy this work party like never before. And Saturday night we will host a dance party rich in African music!
On Sunday, a workshop of ritual and circle dancing will deepen our experience from Saturday’s harvest. In an accepting and loving atmosphere, you will learn traditional West African harvest dance movements and how they fit within the rhythm. Through circle and small group work we will experience the magic of ritual dance that allows us to speak to the Earth Mother and She to us. You will make your own gourd instrument, which you will learn to play and dance with in circle. You will learn harvest dances and ritual movement you can use in your own gardens. This workshop does not focus on choreography, competition, or perfection, but rather nurtures us to ground into our embodied divinity. We will dance from our hearts in prayer in a way that will be accessible to everyone.
The cost of the Sunday workshop is $150.  The Plurk is free.
Come dance and harvest with us this Labor Day Weekend!
Please contact Erin at erin@avalonsprings.org for more information about this event.
