About [Edit]
Greetings everyone,
The Cabrillo Bike Club is hosting a picnic/orientation meeting for the Bicycle Cooperative in the amphitheatre at the Aptos campus, this Wednesday, July 23, 5-7pm. Please invite friends! We'll be serving dinner and dessert for all who attend.
Purpose for the meeting:
1. Meet and greet, have fun!
2. Show everyone where the cooperative is (behind the SAC East building)
3. Re-charter the Bike Club, which operates the Bike Cooperative
4. Plug in new volunteers for the Fall semester
5. Plan more events, work meetings and outreach
6. Schedule bike mechanic trainings for those who wish to learn more skills
Apologies for the short notice! We will be hosting more events before the end of summer, so that everything is ready to run smoothly at the beginning of the Fall semester.
A quick update about the cooperative:
We have started moving into the space that will be home to the bike coop for Fall. Thanks to the Bike Church downtown we have virtually every tool we could need to do just about any kind of bicycle maintenance, as well as a big load of basic parts. We have begun to accept donations of parts. Outreach has kicked into gear. Included in this email is the promotional flier for the cooperative. Feel free to print it out and post all over town. We need some more publicity.
Recently I made a connection with some members of the Santa Cruz County Cycling Club: http://santacruzcycling.org/ ... The Cycling Club hosts rides quite often (see below for an example)
Upcoming calendar events:
Friday, 7/25
The Sustainability Advisory Committee of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges will be hosting a teleconference for the first meeting of the 2008-9 session, Friday, 7/25 at 1pm. If you would like the details, please email me.
Saturday, 7/26
The UC/CSU/CCC Conference is hosted in San Luis Obispo this year, and a group of some fanatical bicyclist are riding from as far away as Chico. They'll be passing through the Santa Cruz area on Saturday, July 26th. I'm trying to divert them slightly from their course to check out the cooperative and greet them with refreshments and offer use of the bike cooperative tools. On Saturday they'll be riding from Davenport to CSU Monterey (Monterey Bay in a Day... heck of a ride). I'd like to join them, and you all are invited to come along.
This day also happens to be 10th Annual Mountains Challenge (again see the http://santacruzcycling.org/ webpage for details
Monday, 7/28
12 noon meeting with Student Services about the Bike Cooperative, in the SAC East building.
Saturday, 8/2
At one of the breakout sessions of the Sustainability Conference, yours truly will be giving a presentation about student transportation initiatives and available resources.
...and finally
SAVE THE DATE:
Thursday, August 7th
