About this course
What is a local economy?
What are the tools that a small business needs to participate in the local economy?
How does one business make a difference in the community and a profit together?
We will briefly examine alliances between business and how to be an active business contributor to the local living economy.

About Brian Cisneros
Workshop Facilitator, Brian Cisneros, works collaboratively with local business owners and leaders in regional organizations to achieve vision, mission, and values in profitable workplaces. Brian’s courses are filled with laughter and insight, always engaging, and focused to be a dynamic hands-on learning experience.

About Derek Hoshiko
Derek was an honorarium professor at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center for three years. During that time, he researched de-centralized local economic systems.
He moved to the Seattle area in 2004, and became an Open Source web developer and co-created a worker-owned cooperative called WebCollective. Derek also serves on the board of BALLE Seattle and is passionate sustainability and creating local living economies. Through BALLE Seattle, Derek has volunteered with The Interra Project, Community Alliance for Global Justice, and most recently helped Sustainable Cascadia organize Cascadia Convergence 2007.

Launched in Fall 2007, BALLE Business Basics is an annual series of workshops for business owners and organization leaders and managers. The purpose of the Business Basics Series is to provide relevant education to the business community with a focus on strengthening our local living economy.
