Community Development Project - Open Kampala, Uganda
2 weeks, November 2009 (dates tbc)
Sub Saharan Africa, where Uganda lies, bears the heaviest burden of HIV/AIDS. One of the major issues that faces the poor and very poor living with HIV and AIDS is ensuring a secure supply of food for themselves and their families.
The Great Generation has developed a project with our Expert Partner which will enable members of the community to provide food for themselves and their families.
The Project
The Great Generation volunteers will be working with community members to look at innovative ways in which to utilise the limited space they have to grow their own vegetables within the slum environment.
Volunteers will also help to develop a community garden, which will be used by the local community members to grow their own vegetables.
The volunteers will also be looking at ways to support local people into livelihood opportunities through microfinance.
Who should take part
We are looking for gardening enthusiasts! That means anybody who enjoys pottering around in the garden. If you have an interest, any experience, or an understanding of gardening, landscaping, irrigation etc then this might be the project for you. We also welcome individuals who don’t but would still like to get involved. The most important thing is enthusiasm and the ability to work hard and get your fingers dirty!
Interested?
