About  [Edit]

Through four speaker presentations and a dynamic Q&A session this upcoming FREE community event will explore the following questions: What are biofuels? Will they really replace gasoline? What do they mean for my community? For the planet? Are they really "green"? This event is one in a monthly series of free EcoNow events that seek to facilitate networking, education and collective action to achieve sustainability and social justice. EcoNow events are video and audio recorded, and these recordings are made available on the EcoNow website along with related educational materials provided by the speakers.

SPEAKERS:

- Tad Patzek – Professor of Geoengineering at UC Berkeley – Presenting on the science behind biofuels and other energy sources.
- Miguel Altieri – Professor of Agroecology at UC Berkeley – Presenting on the impacts of biofuels on food security and the alternatives developed by small peasant growers to secure food sovereignty and resist the expansion of the industrial-corporate agricultural model.
- Eric Holt-Gimenez – Executive Director of Food First – Presenting on biofuels and the corporate transformation of our food and fuels systems.
- Judith Mayer – Project Coordinator of the Borneo Project - Presenting on palm oil biodiesel from a Borneo
perspective.

Past events have attracted a broad cross-section of the public, including local politicians, professors, business owners, non-profit leaders, scientists, students and more.

Free food and drink will be provided.

We are a donation driven organization, any amount is greatly appreciated and goes directly to putting these events on.
