WiserEarth UK

The Wiser UK group aims to bring together WiserEarth members based in the UK. We aim (among other things) to further the vision of WiserEarth and Paul Hawken in helping put up a mirror to the movement, to connect and create alliances between those working towards a more just and sustainable world. We hope that this 'flocking' effect will enable us to improve ...learn more

Permaculture Design Certification Course Intensive

OFFERED: May 31 - June 14, 2008

INSTRUCTORS: Penny Livingston-Stark & Brock Dolman and special guests.

LOCATION - Commonweal Garden, Bolinas, CA

Re-design Your Life! Re-envision The World!

Join us on our budding permaculture farm for this two-week intensive design course. You will observe and use the same principles that make ecological systems self-sustaining, and learn how to apply them to integrate homes and gardens. In addition, you will learn how to apply these principles to energy systems, water supplies, healthy communities, meaningful and fulfilling work, ecological economies and global political movements.

This course weaves together the principles and practices of permaculture with wilderness awareness – explore bird language, tracking and participate in activities that deepen your awareness and intimacy with the rest of the natural world. The program is founded upon the reality that we are nature and have an amazing role in our watershed ecosystems.

The course will include the following:

  • Permaculture Principles & Ethics
  • Reading the Landscape
  • Pattern & Pattern Application
  • Water Harvesting
  • Swale building
  • Zone & Sector Analysis
  • Climate and Micro Climate
  • Earth Energy
  • Mapping

Participants will complete a conceptual permaculture design project, and participate in a variety of hands-on activities such as outdoor observation, mapping, planting, sheet mulching, natural building, plastering, site tours, cheese making, and others.

Location
The course takes place at Commonweal Garden, a 17-acre farm in Bolinas, on the northern California coast. The farm is being transformed into a permaculture model of human beings living in harmony with the earth. Nestled into its own quiet valley, the site features multiple grey water systems, production green house, ponds, seasonal stream, springs, a yurt classroom, goats, sheep, and chickens, and a Registered Organic production garden.

Graduates of the course receive the Permaculture Design Certificate.
