Dear Collegues,

Greetings from Southeast Asia!

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Centre for Biodiversity would like to invite you to its side event to the Ninth Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP9), with the theme "The ASEAN Biodiversity: Its Significance In Maintaining Global Ecological Sustainability" to be held in Room S25, Stresemann, Maritim Hotel Bonn on 22 May 2008 at 6:15-7:45 pm.

Despite occupying only 3 percent of the earth's surface, 20 percent of all known species live deep in the ASEAN ecosystems and seven of the world's 25 biodiversity hotspots are in this region. Our side event will discuss the significant role of the ASEAN region in maintaining global ecological sustainability, as well as highlight the conservation strategies the ASEAN plays in conserving biodiversity.

The ASEAN region's threatened biodiversity needs the world's attention and support. We really appreciate if you can squeeze in a bit of your time to register yourself and your organization in the ACB side event and join the discussions.  We hope that we would be able to generate interests and the prospect for global cooperation in protecting the region's rich but highly vulnerable biodiversity.

We look forward to meeting you in Bonn.

With kindest regards,

Rodrigo U. Fuentes
