About [Edit]
Global Day of Action for Burma
(A Day of International Action for a Free Burma)
Free Aung San Suu Kyi & Support the Monks in Burma
We are marching in solidarity with the monks and ordinary people of Burma who are risking their lives for freedom and democracy.
We appeal to all religious and secular communities across the world not to look the other way while the people of Burma cry out for international support.
Now listed as en EVENT "A Day of International Action for a Free Burma (Oct. 6th) Worldwide" all cities and locations will be posted there shortly.
For more information, and the most frequently updated list of event schedules, see:
Burma Watch: Global Protest 6 October
http://facebook.com/event.php?eid=4973307490
This is the concept that all the major bodies around the world have agreed to for our protests. If you are organising a protest read on.
Global Day of Action – October 6th – Concept Note
Aim:
To draw attention to the continued oppression of the Burmese people and to keep/build the pressure on national governments and the UNSC to do all that they can to alleviate that suffering.
Objectives:
Substantial national and international media coverage focussed on a day of demonstrations in as many capitals as possible.
Clear messages delivered to national governments and the UNSC that they must do all they can to end the suffering of the people of Burma.
Clear messages to Burmese, Chinese, Indian, Russia and European governments that the people of the world are watching their actions.
Messages:
The UN Security Council must act now to alleviate the crisis.
The International Community/ the XXXX government must do more/keep the pressure on until the military crackdown ends and all political prisoners are released.
The people of the world stand with the people of Burma.
Concept:
In as many countries as possible there will be demonstrations in capital cities demanding action.
The aim is to have as many similar components across all of the demonstrations to ensure we generate an international news story.
The elements we want to keep the same around the world are:
The starting time: 12 Noon Saturday 6th October (local time, but don’t worry if you need to be flexible with this).
The demonstrators: Should all be wearing red headbands in solidarity with the Monks in Burma. (this could be limited to the leaders of the march if you can’t get enough headbands)
The action: Demonstrators removing the headbands and tying them onto key landmarks e.g. Golden Gate Bridge, the gates of Parliament etc
The picture: Monks or other religious leaders scattering petals from a bridge into a river (the bridge is to symbolise the desire for reconciliation, the petals the lives of the Burmese people currently at risk).
We’re aware that not everyone has bridges to use or that the timing may have to be flexible so if there is one thing to concentrate on please make it people wearing red headbands and towards the end of the march the marchers tying these red pieces of cloth onto a building, religious shrine etc. This is the critical bit we want to keep the same globally so please do your best! (you should be able to just cut up red cloth to use as headbands)

(INDIA) Support a $150 million Withdrawal from the Burmese Regime
Lots of ppl have voiced their opinions about China esp with rallies at their embassies around the world. However Indian's Asia largest democracy was silent for quite some time until things got out of hand and violent photos surfaced.
This particular Indian company with $150 million to the Burmese junta has become very "jittery" http://www.mizzima.com/MizzimaNews/News/2007/Sep/102-Sep-2007.html.
Let's give them more reasons to be - it takes 1 minute of your time to fill out a contact form to voice your protest against their business venture with the military here: <a href="http://www.ongcvidesh.com/online_form.asp" target="_blank">http://www.ongcvidesh.com/online_form.asp
If enough people do this, in no time we may hear about their $150 million dollar withdrawal from Myanmar. We can make a difference NOW however please be courteous with your complaints and refrain from using bad words, despite the upsetting circumstances.
