The Country in the
City: Greening the Bay
February 11, 2008
12:30 PM
The
San Francisco Bay Area is more greensward than asphalt jungle, more
open space than hardscape. Almost 900,000 acres are in publicly owned
open space, an area larger than Yosemite National Park. Richard Walker,
Professor of Geography at UC Berkeley, has a new book that tells the
story of how the Bay Area got its green groove: "The Country in the
City". Come hear from him about how this hard-won conservation effort
has humanized our metropolis.
