About

The honeybee is an insect that has long been in partnership with humankind. Now, more than ever, the bees are in need of our attention and appreciation. Join us for a hands-on design and build of a Top Bar Hive for northern climates, and working with less invasive beekeeping techniques. We will discuss the current plight of the bees, and present solution-oriented information about renewing and reshaping this ancient relationship. We discuss bees within larger pollinator complexes, the role of bees in their native habitats, non-traditional products and medicines of the hive, planting for pollinator support, top-bar hive beekeeping, and other techniques- new and old from near and far- inspiring renewed health of honeybees and pollinators in general.
Hands-on work with the bees will be weather dependent, but we plan to spend some time inside the hive.
Suggested Donation $50, no one will be refused for lack of funds. All proceeds support education and practice of ethical and ecological beekeeping.
Sam Comfort has been breeding bees with Russian genetics and pushing the envelope with northern Top Bar Hives. You can read his bio and more about his operation at:

Keith Morris is a beekeeper and permaculture educator. He has worked with Honey Gardens Apiaries, and training beekeepers in Nigeria and Ghana.
Prospect Rock Permaculture is a growing edible forest garden, ecological homestead, and education center in Johnson along the Lamoille River. We combine reforestation, wildlife refuge, and ecological restoration with food production and community building, while educating about and experimenting with sustainable techniques and ways of building.
Pre-Registration is required. Call or email with questions. This is the second in a series of Permaculture Design/ Build workshops taking place thoughout the spring, summer, and fall. Upcoming workshops: Spring Development for Passive Water Harvesting, Natural Walls, Masonry Stoves, Earthen Bread Oven, Greenhouse, Geodesic Dome/ Bioshelter, etc. Bee in touch for details and with your interests.
