About  [Edit]

Please join us (but RSVP with me if you plan to come because I want to have enough materials and supplies!) for an Intro to Reflexology class including theory, practice, handouts and reflective discussion. It will be on Sunday April 20th from 12pm to 5pm at the Campe Studio in Northampton. Read below for a more in-depth description of what we will be covering.

The class is open to anyone which means there are no pre-requisites and there will be an open arm welcome.

Please bring yoga mats and/or blankets and hand towels if possible.

The address of the Campe Studio is 152 South Street, Northampton, on the way to Easthampton
from downtown Noho. The Studio is in the backyard of the house; if you follow the driveway back, you will find this gem of a studio space. It is very important that this is a **FRAGRANCE-FREE EVENT** which includes not wearing essential oils and scented products. The owner of the studio is quite chemically sensitive so we need to be courteous as guests there. Please email me or call at 904.252.1203 for directions.

The class will be a $40 including handouts.

Reflexology is a modality that uses points/specific areas on the feet (and hands and ears, but I have only been taught the feet) to relieve pain, facilitate balance or in some way affect a desired area of the body (eg if someone is constipated, pressing into the specific colon area on the foot may help to initiate a bowel movement, etc).

The modality has been traced back to ancient Eyptian, Chinese, and Japanese cultures, but modern Reflexology as generally used in the Western Hemisphere has a wide range of influences including more recent discoveries. It operates with an underlying foundational philosophy that empirically maintains that there are reflex points on the feet, hands & ears that correspond with almost every place in the body. I received over 30 hours of training exclusively related to Reflexology from a long-time (30 year) practitioner. He has seen consistent effectiveness through the use of this modality throughout his very busy 30 year practice.

A Basic Reflexology class: The first part will be devoted to philosophy of healing, the history & practice of Reflexology, suggestions for creating boundaries between self and client (super important for those of us who are significantly empathic), suggestions for creating a setting where healing/balance can happen, techniques for applying pressure and understanding depth of appropriate pressure unique to each client, and finally reception of Reflexology charts and handouts of a couple sample sequences. The next part will be hands on practice, one hour each for giving and one hour for receiving. The final part will be for questions, comments, amazements, reflections, etc.

It will be quite a strong introduction to the art/practice of Reflexology but it in no way certifies you as a Reflexology practitioner. It does however give you another informal tool to offer to your clients, family or friends to aid in their healing/balancing processes.

Please RSVP with me so I have enough materials!

Look forward to seeing you there!!
