About [Edit]

When: Sat July 25th, 11am-3pm
Where: The walk will start at 11am at the SE corner
of Market and 40th Streets, continue down the 40th St. sidewalk to
Webster St., turn right onto Webster St. and end at Mosswood Park.
What:
The Heartbeat of Oakland is a 1-mile community walk and Picnic to promote North Oakland's health and togetherness. At
the park we will all gather to cool down from our walk, eat our food,
share our stories about living in North Oakland and speak to each
other about what we see as possible for our neighborhood. We will be
filming the contributions of individuals who wish to be videotaped and
these will be shared online. Don't forget to bring a picnic lunch, friends and whatever you wish to share with your neighbors, poetry, song, story or otherwise.
Who: This event is hosted by community members, for community
members. We have received guidance from the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Bay Localize, Urban Peace Movement, Heartwalker Studio, The Engage Network, Urojas Ministries and
others. There will be musical performances by Silence the Violence and Purchased. Gym Class Fitness and the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse
will be leading two of the day's activities.
Why: This is a unique opportunity for YOU to listen to what your
neighbors have to share and share whatever you wish with your community.
Saturday, July 25th is only the beginning and the rhythm of the Heartbeat of
Oakland will continue to be heard, with the voices of many and the hearts of
everyone involved.
