About  [Edit]

Healthy Communities, Healthy Planet

About the Summit

Join us for TALC's 2008 Summit, which will explore the connections between land use, transportation, and health. How we build our communities and travel within them directly affect our health. A safe neighborhood with amenities nearby increases the amount that people will walk to schools, shops, and services. A reduced number of cars on the road means cleaner air for everyone. And good transit service ensures everyone can access their health care providers. Over the last few years, connections between these fields have been made; too often, however, we still operate in separate worlds.

Our 11th Annual Summit will bring together advocates, activists, and practitioners from these fields for a day of speakers and participatory sessions to get us working together on building healthier communities.

Whether you are new to these issues or a longtime TALC supporter; whether you are a citizen activist, elected official, or planner; TALC's Summit is the place to get involved, strategize, network, and hone your advocacy skills in the movement for a better Bay Area.

The Summit will be at the First Unitarian Church (685 14th St.) in downtown Oakland, which is convenient to BART and many AC Transit routes. Online registration will be available in mid-January 2008.
