Peace in our lives and the world will be achieved through the integration of diverse social changes that take us beyond the cessation of violence and war. Million Ideas for Peace presents Nurturing the Art of Active Peace, a full-day creative and interactive workshop designed to help participants connect their strengths and passions to the creation of a culture of peace. We will explore questions such as:
- How can we begin to unravel the complexities of peace?
- What unrecognized acts of peace in which we already engage, remain hidden to us?
- How do we can tap into what matters to us most in service to a culture of active peace?
- How do we connect the resources needed to support the cornerstones of peace in the 21st century?
Our day begins with Lucy Garrick, host and founder of Million Ideas for Peace facilitating creative conversations focused on “active peace” . We will use the creative process as a metaphor for considering what it takes to nurture a practice of active peace. And we will contemplate original art from the collections at the Seattle Art Museum to inspire our conversations.
In the afternoon participants will have an opportunity to hear and interact with one of the great thinkers of a generation, Dr. Riane Eisler. Riane will share her views on the cornerstones of peace from her latest work, The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating Caring Economics.
Riane Eisler PhD is author of bestselling, The Chalice and the Blade, as well as the award-winning, Tomorrow's Children, The Power of Partnership and Sacred Pleasure. Her newest book, The Real Wealth of Nations is recommended by fellow scholars and activists, Arch-bishop Desmond Tutu, Peter Senge, and Jane Goodall. Riane's work has touched a diverse range of people as she helps us "connect the dots" between peace and its political and social complexity.
