Meet the NEW Silicon Valley for Obama!
Silicon Valley for Obama has been working through a transitional phase in which we will identify our new mission, structure and leadership by working with volunteers from our communities—from Morgan Hill to San Mateo. We plan to present our NEW organizational ideas in our second town hall meeting since the election.
Where: First Presbyterian Church, 1140 Cowper St., Palo Alto, CA 94301
When: February 11, 2009 at 7.30pm
RSVP: http://www2.sv4obama.com/townhall/rsvp
Our first town hall meeting was held in November 2008, following the election. We discussed opportunities and concerns as a group, and completed individual surveys revealing our interests and hopes for the organization. At that time, we offered our members the chance to sign up for teams that have worked over the past several months to help us understand (1) the context in which our organization would engage with the community, and (2) help us leverage our past work. Simply put, we were looking for the optimal role in our community given the desires of the membership, and the needs of those communities and the Obama administration.
As we've seen over the last several months, SV4Obama volunteers are still in demand, taking action in our local communities, and supporting President Obama's agenda. Find out how our organization will be structured, hear about the tools we'll be using, and let us know how you'd like to be involved. Please attend this important meeting: it's your opportunity to weigh in and get involved for the future.
After a Big Night for Celebration, Let’s get to Work!
Where were you on Inauguration Day? Everyone has a special story to tell about this long-awaited day. And long after the Mall had cleared, the celebrations continued. Silicon Valley for Obama members attended parties large and small, from local get-togethers and larger parties, to balls in Washington DC. Photos and Videos…
But like President Obama, who showed up at work early the next day and has driven his agenda for change tirelessly every day since then, we’re ready to go. Whether you’re interested in a particular issue or service organization, or just want to answer the President’s call for us to work locally for change, Silicon Valley for Obama can help to keep you informed, connect you with opportunities, and support your efforts. We are building a new organization to make this possible, and this web site plays an important role. Take a look, and let us know how you’d like to help.
Silicon Valley for Obama Honored for Service
Once again, Silicon Valley for Obama answered the call: On Dr. Marting Luther King’s birthday, long designated a Day of Service, members created events throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, and volunteers arrived in droves. The Silicon Valley is an area that always surpassed expectations during the Presidential campaign too, so this shouldn’t be surprising: whether we’re sending volunteers to Nevada and Colorado, making phone calls or delivering community service.
In recognition for our past community service—and of the potential of our service going forward—the City of Palo Alto awarded a representative sample of our volunteers with certificates recognizing their service. John Jacobs spoke briefly about the incredible commitment of our volunteers, and Melodi Masaniai spoke about the commitment of volunteers to providing service of all kinds.
We’d like to thank the City of Palo Alto for organizing such a beautiful event in honor of Dr. King’s birthday, and Youth Community Services (YCS) for the great work they do with kids in our community. The real stars of the show were the YCS kids reading their letters to President Obama—Tomorrow’s leaders are already taking shape!
