About  [Edit]

LONDON WEEK OF PEACE (LWOP) is an annual week of high profile events, initiatives and action organised principally by communities and individuals but also engaging organisations, businesses and public agencies, to promote greater community cohesion, safety and peace across the capital. Under the banner, Reconciliation, Celebration, Collaboration, tens of thousands of Londoners from all walks of life will participate in a range of citywide and local  activities, engaging local community and voluntary organisations, businesses, public agencies and individuals.

LWOP is for everyone and for all communities. It is a focused time for dialogue and truth, for healing and sharing, and for renewing the capital’s commitment to peace in all its forms but in particular through:
  • The absence of violence
  • The presence of justice
  • Peace and development
  • Promoting dialogue and leadership
  • Conflict resolution and conflict avoidance

MISSION

The mission statement for the London Week of Peace is:
“To challenge all Londoners to make a positive change in their communities by engaging in a community safety agenda for London”

VISION STATEMENT

The vision of the London Week of Peace is to involve all Londoners in a celebration of diversity with the goal of promoting justice, equality and respect and contributing to a more cohesive society.

AIMS

The London Week of Peace Initiative has three key aims:

  • To raise awareness of community safety;
  • To increase community cohesion and understanding in London; and
  • To help reduce crime and the fear of crime in the capital.

KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE WEEK ARE TO:

  • Identify, celebrate and profile ongoing community safety work in the corporate, statutory, voluntary, faith and community sectors;
  • Provide an opportunity for Londoners to define what peace means to them and proactively get involved in Peace initiatives;
  • Provide an opportunity for community cohesion amongst young people and every other sector of society.
